    Controlling your scent?

As far as bowhunting goes how do you all control your scent? use scent coverup sprays, carbon clothes, scent blockers, washing of cloths and body, bug protection (i.e. mosquitos and ticks), rubber boots vs leather boots, etc.

I understand that hunting the wind has alot to do with it, but what else can be done.

I have been practicing for the last couple weeks out to 30 yards and starting looking into public land locations here in Md. My goal is to bag at least one doe this first year of hunting.

Well I don't bow hunt, but when doing other hunting I use cover scent spray and sometimes those scent wafers. Also I store my clothes in a separate bin with a couple small pine limbs. I feel like this keeps the scent "woodsy." I won't wash my clothes as long as I have to and if I do I usual use the scent eliminating detergent. I like leather boots unless it's gonna be thaat wet, then out come the knee boots.

Don't forget to spray the bottom of your shoes!

All that scent protection is OK but remember these tips, the air rises in the morning so you can get away with a little more early. But in the evening you better pay close attention to wind direction. And no matter how much care to take covering up your scent it ain't gonna stop a deer from smelling you.....

I try very hard to approach my stand in a manner so the deer won't cross my tract before I can shoot him. I wear rubber boots to try to minimize my scent if they do cross my trail. I try to set up no worse than cross wind to where I think they will come, down wind is of course better. I won't hunt a stand when I know the wind is going to be wrong. Here in NC, light and variable seems to be the average but I do look at the primary wind direction when I decide where to hunt on any given day. I don't think all the fancy scent clothes/products can keep a deer from smelling you, but that is just my opinion. Watch the TV shows on deer hunting, even those sponsored by the scent product industry still recommend hunting down wind if they are truthful and some are. I can say this with confidence, if you "forget the wind and just hunt" I hope you are lucky. If you do and are really successful at it, I will get you to pick my lotto numbers.
On using lures, I have had some success in the rut, late Oct. thru Thanksgiving with usually a peak somewhere in the middle. When I am using scents, I usually hunt high, sometimes 25+ feet off the ground, which is where I preferr all the time. I preferr the doe in estrus scent.
On humid days, you will get busted much than dry days. On days where smoke hangs low instead of going up, so does your scent.
The less brush you touch going through the woods the better. Deer can smell where a limb brushed your pant leg for hours afterwards. I know for a fact a bear can smell it after 6 hours cause I watched them do it many times.
The best of luck in the upcoming season. I will be more than happy to give you my opinion on any bowhunting question you may have. Post away.

I have tons of stands on my place all over 25' and located to hunt during different wind directions. My 3 favorite places have 3 stands within 50 yards of each other to take advantage of the wind on a given day. I am a firm believer in a climbing stand. I will get as high as possible, 40' some times. I think that is the most effective scent elimination thing out there. I also always wear knee high lacrosse rubber boots and I will spray them with a scent neutralizer and again don't brush against anything if possible. If i do get busted, I stay well away from that area for a week or more to let them forget it.

My deer hunting partner acts like he's going to be performing nuero surgery in a micro silicon chip factory for each hunt----
shit, I feel motivated when I walk to the back field instead of driving the truck.

You wanna bag a doe give me a call. Screw all that scent coverin up, hiding in a tree sweatin your ass off BS! You can come over my house, sit on my back deck, drink a beer, have a good conversation, smoke a stogie and bag a big ole doe! They aren't afraid of nothin here. At last count I had 15 living in my back yard with some new ones on the way. The bastards have destroyed thousands of dollars of my landscaping. Every time I plant a fig tree they mow it down the next evening. My wife and neighbors would welcome you with open arms man! Let me know I will throw some steaks on the grill and get some coronas chillin'
