I am watching these hunting shows on the Sportsman Channel, ESPN or whatever. My question is do you consider yourself a "hunter" if you have to pay for what you shoot? Go the the Sanctuary and pay $$$$ for the size you want. PATHETIC!!!!!

I watch these "hosts" of the hunting shows letting monster bucks walk by that the normal hunter will never see in a life time. I WILL NO LONGER WATCH THESE SHOWS!

Question here.
Shooting anything at a sanctuary is, Well, Like shooting fish in a barrel.
But,
If you travel to a place far far away, Where the hunting is good, Pay for a guide to show you where to go and take you there.
Is that HUNTING?. Is there a difference?
Many "hunters" go out of their locale to hunt. Hire guides.
Kill something and take pictures.
Done it myself,
To me, less than satisfying.
I do not have land to hunt so I quit hunting.
If you have the land, Scout it, know it, and "HUNT" it,
you are a hunter.
If you pay someone to put you on game, You are a shooter.
Kinda like the difference between fisher-persons and boaters.

I couldn't agree more! I don't even like getting invited to hunt with some one on club land or what ever and they stick me a box stand. I would much rather them show me a topo map and let me go in with my climbing gear and "bushwack" one. I guess thats why I'm not much of big fan of box stands...
QUESTION ????
WHAT IS....
SITTING OVER A FOOD PLOT
RUNNING DEER WITH DOGS
SITTING OVER A PILE OF BAIT
USING TRAIL CAMERAS
ONLY THING MISSING IS A GAME FENCE.
There's a fine line with all this.
In Africa a "canned hunt" often spans 100's or even 1000's of acres. That to me is not a canned hunt.
A canned hunt is shooting something thats been lured into a 10 acre play pen.
I've never been a hunter myself but I've always thought that baiting, running down with dogs, or fencing is just not sportsmanlike.
and jay, it was not all that sporting. It was cool to see those exotic creatures up close but the hunting was not what I would call hunting. The bait thing(I use corn) is really my preferred method. You think it's easy, come on down and try it. They know you are after them and come in stealthy as hell. More times than not they bust me. I don't see any problem with corn. They pattern us better than we pattern them. They benefit from the food plots and corn. If they did not...they would not eat it.

Well i can't see hunting something like an elephant, hippo, rhiho, or something that just stands there while you plow a fragmenting high caliber round into it's skull.
I do have much respect for the guys stalking spring bok, gazelles, and such on an open grass plain like you'd stalk an antelope in the mid west.
If I was ever going to hunt i told myself I would stalk, simple as that. Ground stalk whatever game it was. Bear, deer, hog, etc. To me its only fair when you level the playing field.
That's just me though.
Using corn to feed pattern a deer in 200 acres is ok i suppose.
