Busted by the DNR

Time has been limited this season so when I had a couple hours yesterday after getting kids off to school I grabbed by bow and planned to give it a couple hours in the tent, still looking for that first bow kill. I decided to park at the outside gate of one of our properties (PRIVATE LAND) and walk in to a front section with a fallow field next to the lane where there where some strutt marks in the lane. 9:30am .I really like the setup Jake in the middle of the white shell road, hen just off the edge, tent set up at an angle across ditch in fallow field next to a small pine. decoys visable 100yds each way down rd. Perfect 15 yd shot to the Jake decoy. Plans where to try some light calls just every once in a while. Heard a few gobbles in the very far distance, in no response to my calls. Suddenly one lets loose a couple hundred yds down the road, then a few minutes later closer. After about 5 -6 goobles he sounds like he is about 60-80yds down the road and has to be able to see the decoys. Then never heard another peep. This is impossible I think to myself. The last gooble was sometime around 10:30. My plans where to only hunt until 11, but since I figured he has to be hung up strutting on the road I was going to wait until the last minute. Well never heard another gobble so broke down the tent packed up and stepped out on road to grab my decoys and standing about 80 yds down the road was DNR. What the ....!.



She said there had been complaints about people shooting late in the area, which turned out to be the region, so she saw my truck and wanted to check things out. I ask here what time did she show up??? "Around 10:30" Huh?!....Nice.



Best chance I have ever had at a bird with a bow!!!Busted!!

I had a dream hunt wrecked by the man a few years ago. I had a doe bed down not far from me. Natural hens came out the other side and even had piggies wandering around the area. I chirped once and had a gobble come right back. Bird was comming nice. I was on the shoulder waiting for clean shot range. Suddenly everything blew out!
Man comes walking up "get anything?" I was fumin at that point. "You saw me walk in and would have heard a shot if I did. Got a jar of cranberry sauce I'd like to shove..."
