Busted again!!!

Morning Hunt:
went out this morning and got busted by some deer before light, then nothing the rest of the morning.

Afternoon Hunt.
Same tree oppisite wind direction from yesterday when that big buck busted me. 5:50pm a button buck comes into the bait but very spooked.. Eats for about 10min then takes off. 20min later a very nice 7 pointer (20" spead 10" tines) comes in down wind of me comes into the corn and winds me...Game over.. he took off..

Conclusion:
I think i'm too close to my bait and the deer come in very skiddish..

Going to try to cut them off 30yds further back.. going out monday

Good thing deer meat is not my primary food source becasue i would have died of starvation along time ago

Are you allowed to bait in NJ?

In Pa, it is illegal.

Baiting is an indian word for "lazy smelly hunter" more trips to the stand means more scent and once a deer smells you he'll avoid you for days. Try less baiting, knee high rubber boots, cover scent and change your location to more of an in route ambush mentality. This will work as long as you leave that 4-wheeler in the truck.

very small property so there is no 4 wheelers. I tried every sent cover but it did not work. Have rubber boots, did not matter. But I do like the in route method. Thats what my plan is goinfg to be next week.

A big buck will just sense the danger...It would be one molecule of scent that he subconciously smells, your eyes blinking up in the stand.

The big boys are big for one reason.....THEY'RE GOOD.

But of course all bow hunters know that....we've all seen the ass end of a buck weaving through the woods that we never knew was there.

As far as cover scents....This year I went neutral and have had great results. Does and younger bucks have been the only thing I've had within bow range, but I have not been smelled yet. I was skeptical at first, but went with home made scent killer. It's peroxide, baking soda, distilled water and a little scent free soap. The best part is the price....cheap cheap cheap.

I will never smell like "fresh earth" again.

Now I'll probably get caught by a bruiser from about 50 yds tonight, and that will be fine by me.

Dave, thanks I'll give it a try..

I learned alot this past week, i found out how and where the big bucks are comming from, and which trails they use when the wind blows different directions. I have my google earth map printed and plotting where i'm going to sit on Monday.

Here's the recipe.

Ingredients for Scent Killer:
16 oz. (2 cups) Peroxide

16 oz. (2 cups) Distilled Water

¼ cup baking soda

1 oz. non-scented shampoo

Make it in a gallon jug and sit it outside with the cap barely on. There will be a reaction b/t the peroxide and soda and it will bubble and give off a gas. Some folks parboil juniper berries and add it to the mix, but that's defeat the whole neutral thing.

I put mine in a spray bottle I found around the house.

It will leave a slight white residue on stuff and is stlightly corrosive so don't spray it on your bow, gun, etc.

good luck,

D
