On what? For hunting or in general?
I have a few and I love each one for a different reason and purpose.
1. The DPMS LR-308 is great for damn near anything.
2. My Smith and Wesson M&P Tactical is the s&*%t for target and fun shooting.
3. My Bushhmaster M4 in .223 is a wild hog killin' S.O.B also.
BTW, I'm looking at an Olympic Arms original .223 SN# 4022 that I'm considering selling if anyone wants one.![]()
Got a Olympic Arms .223 for Christmas. My first rifle. Took it out Christmas day and set up the Bushnell Holographic sight, didn't take long to tune it in @ 100 yards. It sure shoots nice. Plan on going for coyote, javalina, maybe bobcat. We have a lot of these critters around here.
They are fantastic for varmints, pigs, and targets. I would use mine on deer w heavy loads.
Mine is .5 MOA all day with just about any non varmint bullet you put in it. RRA w 20 inch bull barrel.
What are you looking to use it for Bearhunter?
I have used mine to take down critters out to 600 yards. I hand load 75 grain Hornandy BTHPs and they carry plenty of "VaVoom" for yotes at those distances.
The biggest thing to consider w ARs is the rate of twist. If you get one w a fast rate, the varmint loads will spin apart in flight and you will be sorely dissapointed. However a slower ROT (1:12) you can use the varmint loads and rock em silly. If your going to use heavier bullets (over 55 grains) then get the 1:9 or 1:8 and light them up.
Mine is so much fun to shoot. 16 power mil dot scope. It makes it easy. I actually sold it a few years ago (needed cash) and was able to buy it back 2 months ago. Can't wait to hunt with it again. Already trying to get some yote trips lined up.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT INFO, I JUST MADE UP MY MIND WHICH WAY TO GO.
I don't use them for hunting but a lot of my tactical work is done with a Bushy M4.
Bushy also makes that new 6.8 lower that will mount up to any of your big bore uppers.
DPMS would be my go-to for hunting/long range engagement. I'd opt for the .308 with heavy bull barrel and free-floating handguard.
My brother has that gun with a chrome bull, free floater, magpul grip, magpul stock and I believe a 4x12??? But in .223
Things Sub-MOA all day long at 300 yds. The .223 is a nice long range round. Rather unaffected by wind and doesn't seem to drop much. Probably lacks your umph for taking down larger game. However, the recoil is so low that its not hard to fire off consecutive shots with good accuracy. I know waterman (Adam) on here has used the .450 as a back up hog gun while guiding.
