Beaver

I've got an interesting question- it might be crazy but it might just work too.

I live on a lake and have beavers all around. Due to regulations, I get fined if I cut down any trees over 3" diameter but I really want to get rid of a bunch of em.

My novel idea is to put some kind of beaver attractant on the trees that I want down. They chew them down- I blame it on the beavers- and Duke power stays off my ass.

Some might call it a stupid idea but If it works I'll be brilliant!!!

What can I do to attract beavers to my trees?

I have always noticed that when hiking into swamps to duck hunt that the beavers have a nice little trail from the water's edge up in the woods. I wonder if it would attract them if you carve out a nice trail by pruning down the trees, briars, reeds, trees that are all under 3" circumference at the water's edge. This may allow them better access to the big trees to cut down. Always amazes me how big a tree they gnaw down.

Beavers will usually forage in the areas behind their dams to get the trees. Hence the need for them to dam up water. This allows them the raise the waters edge into foraging areas and better access to the food.

Trappers have some stuff. Just google Beaver attractor.

Here is one quick link. Look about half way down the page.

Where I live diamonds and credit cards wouldn't work near as well as a case of budweiser and a tattoo machine..

Jim- thanks I might order me up some beaver lure and see what happens. I'll report back if It actually works.

Ace- McCartney is doing great! She already loves being outside and the pontoon boat! Hows yours?

When I was a kid, there was a local lake that hired a trapper to rid the lake of beavers, because they were getting the ornamental trees around the lake. That guy came in and put a whommping on them for a few days. We asked him how he was doing it and he said something about lures. He left and we set off all his traps, because we liked the beavers. After about a week of it, he got tired of empty traps and left.
