So far has been very good. Have had extremely good day's so far, 100% average. Monday we had a several hour race and decided not to take the bear, yesterday we got a 450, today had a fella take his first approx 275 lb's. Will be at it at first light tommorrow. The 450 pounder got pretty serious with me, he was on the "ill" side, doesn't happen too often. I got to him twice but wasn't able to get a good shot, he winded me and broke. Made a loop and came back in, the breeze was pushing my scent in his direction. I figured if he winded me he would stay clear, wrong!!! He was gettin' pretty pissed by this time. He came in caught my scent and came directly in onto me. I mean onto me. It was really thick (as any good bear wood's in our part of the country are. Not many places as thick and tight as Eastern,NC lowland's), could hear him coming but couldn't see him till he was at about 12 feet. At 8 feet he made eye contact and had me on his mind in a full run. My .44 mag changed his mind pretty quick, my shot was off about 1 1/2 inches from a "kill". Not quite as easy as they make it look in the movie's. But the shot did solidly roll him on his back and had him take off in the other direction. One of the guy's with us finished him a short time later. With bear (especially big one's) it's very often that's the way it work's. It's a group hunt and that's why we are very picky about who hunt's with us. It's thick, close and fast. A mistake can cause serious problem's. So far so good, as a whole we've hunting together for year's. You've got to petty much "prove" yourself, just the way it is.
Getting plenty of picture's with the new camera. Not used to being able to carry one and left it in the truck today when I went "in" on a bear, missed what would have been some awesome pic's. Guess that's why the case has a belt loop, I'll figure it out after awhile. I'll try to post em' up when thing's slow down abit. I'm pretty worn out when I pull in at night. Frank
