    Awesome Fla. Archery hunt

Last night I had a last minute chance to bowhunt with a good friend who has access to some killer private land near Stuart Florida. I set up in a big pine tree on the edge of a wetland bordered by a thick palmetto ledge with the wind less than ideal but was late getting in and had to settle for what I had.

The wind was at my back making it difficult but not impossible for a broadside shot at any deer exiting the ledge in front of me. Shortly after my arrival some hogs started making a lot of racket in the ledge and I thought my chances of seeing a deer leaving out of there were slim since they don't usually get along too well with wild hogs.

I stood up and decided to watch my backtrail in hopes that a deer would come down the trail from behind me out of a thick overgrown pasture instead. The hogs continued to carry on and fight in the ledge to my right for a while.

About 20 minutes before last light I heard a bunch of crashing around in the water adjacent to the ledge and figured here come the hogs. As I looked through the brush trying to locate them I spotted a couple of deer leaving the palmettos heading my way so I turned to face them and clipped onto my bowstring to be ready.

There were four does in a line easing over my way and I decided to take the biggest one who was in the lead. As they got closer, angling toward me it looked like they would be in front of me quartering to me as they stepped into my wind and I decided I would not have a good shot before they busted me.

At 25 yards, the big doe stopped and turned to her right a little giving me a perfect broadside angle just before she reached my downwind position and I let her have it. A perfect double lung pass through and thirty yard run back to the wetland and she crashed in sight of me.

The other does scattered in every direction and finally settled down all around the dead one. For a couple of minutes they looked at my deer stomping and blowing before getting back together and starting my way again back on the same trail they came down originally.

I got another arrow and said this might end up being a double! As they got nearer to me it looked like I would have the same shot all over again so when they reached 35 yards I drew back and held in the opening where I made the first shot and took a deep breath. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye I saw a flash of movement about 90 degrees to my right and I looked over my shoulder, still at full draw and saw a pretty damn good 8 point buck walking out of the ledge.

I was at draw already and just rotated to my right just as the buck stopped in an opening at 25 yards and let it loose and crack, another double lung job. The buck sprinted forward in front of me about 75 yards and did a digger right in the four wheeler trail in front of me. Game over!

I climbed down and picked up my arrow from the buck and walked over to the doe to drag her out to the road next to the buck and waited for my buddy to walk out to me and thanked God for such a great hunt with my two deer at my feet.

    Man I love hunting.

    Thanks Fellas-

Been chomping at the bit to get back out but the boat has been taking up too much of my time lately. I'll get one more crack at em' in Florida this Sunday then it's off to Alabama in January. Man this season went by fast.
