    MD ATTENTION TURKEY HUNTERS

With the monsoons this past week came massive flooding to the Laurel, Md. area when they had to open the flood gates at a major dam about four miles outside of town. Our shop became surrounded by flood waters and the woods behind were totally underwater. We had our own little island around the shop that was bone dry. Yesterday one of the helpers in the shop said there was a bunch of turkey buzzards in our back lot and they got all but two of them to leave. I had to go investigate this for myself and when I got out back I was astounded. I told the boy,dem aint buzzards, dem is wild turkeys! I could not beleive it right in the back yard, never seen or heard em before. They were so close that these pictures were taken with a standard lens on a digital camera.

Neat pictures. Sounds like those 2 were stubborn about not going into the trees.

So what does this rain mean for the little ones of the year?

I tried to get a similar pic of a fawn and it's mother about 50 yds away in the back yard today.

Last July we'd see a doe a few times a week. She'd use the backyard as a browse area/ highway. Well she's back and with junior this time...pretty cool shit.

Now just if I could smoke both of the on sept 15th!!

Well it has been a full week now and these guys are still hanging around. Apparently the Maryland Dept. of Natural Resouces caught wind of this situation and they want to trap two pairs of them to relocate some where on the Eastern shore to try to establish a breeding population. We told them not today because we feel that since they are on private land they have no right trapping on our land. Any thought from anyone on this before we hear back from them?

The eastern shore has more damn turkeys than the rest of the state. Establish a breeding population...what morons. It'll cost the tax payer God knows how much, stress the birds, and be a waste of damn time.

They released about 500 near my farm in Har. Co years ago. a few weeks later I heard gobbling coming from the chicken coop. It just so happened that the hillbillies that lived there shooed the two big toms into the cages since they couldn't fly with clipped wings.

The birds were eaten a few weeks later for thanksgiving.

Real smart use of your resources DNR....real smart.

They might be eating gravel......you know birds and turkeys use gravel in their craw which is connected to the throat or trachea to digest/grind seeds etc.

I ship a lot of the 7 gallon deer feeders prior to the spring turkey hunting season.
They feed them up to a couple days prior to opening day, remove them leaving no trace of corn.....so they can hold them to an area and still be legal.
