Arrow Issue? What arrows do you shoot?

OK here is the issue. About 3-4 weeks ago I took my bow into a local pro shop renowed for his ability to perfectly tune a bow to have a drop away put on. while ther he also did a couple modifications to the bow including tuning it, adding a larger peep, kisser button, felt on areas of the bow that the arrow may hit while in the field among a couple of other small things. Keep in mind that I bought the pow originally from bass pro and its a lower end PSE (Nova) without all the bells and whistles.

Len was able to correct the problems created by the folks at bass pro when they set up the bow originally but he stated that he could not tune the bow with my arrows and had to use the correct arrows. I have Size 6075-28" RedHead® Carbon Fury™ Arrows that I bought with the bow. The draw weight of the bow is currently set to 62 #s According to len these are too heavy for the draw weight not to mention that about half of the arrows are out of straightness.

He did say that they would work but I would notice a difference with the correct arrows.

So I brought the bow home and have been shooting it daily out to 30 yards. I was able to get it sighted and shoot better than when I took it in, but here comes the issues. All the sighting in came from shooting field points (100 grains) when I switched over to testing the muzzy 3 blade 100 grain BH points the further out I shoot the further the grouping is. And its not just a drop in grouping its an erattic issue. At 30 yards I will get one broadhead shooting 3" high left and the next shooing 2" low right. Note that it has nothing to do with the lighted knocks as I have the issue with regular knocks as well and shooting the field points with the lighted knocks showed no difference. so what i am thinking is that the fact that the arrows I have other than being a lower quality are over spined and the additional weight is overcoming the less aerodynamic blades.

Does all this sound right and if so what arrows do you pros use

IMO arrows are the most important part of the game.

I used to shoot the bass pro cheapos, but found out just as you have that they aren't worth a damn.

I went to Gold Tips last year and won't ever change. They're tough as hell and fly true.

This year I am shooting a new bow and I picked up the Pro hunters and fletched them with Blazer vanes. They're shooting great for me. They're Pro hunter 5575's cut to 28" w/ 100 grain tips and have an FOC around 11.8%.

Go to www.goldtip.com and play with the FOC calculator, build your own arrows, and look at the sizing chart(.pdf)

I shoot the expedition hunters out of my other bow and have never had a problem with them either.

I know Easton is popular too, but never messed with them.

Good luck and don't be cheap on your arrows.

Also realize that broadheads generally won't fly exactly the same as your field tips. Wind will affect them and they react to shooter errors more. The speed of newer bows don't help the problems either. You've picked a good broadhead so go with good arrows.

i would say you are probably over spined i would ask the same question at archerytalk.com and you will get the answer you are looking for i shoot carbon express terminator light selects but that doesnt help you as my draw weight is 70# @30"

i still shoot easton aluminum 2317 lite shafts, my arrow length is 30 1/2"..talk about shooting telephone poles, and my draw weight is 68 lbs. The archery shop should have a scale to get you the right shaft for your length and draw weight, however i can shoot the 100 grain muzzy 4 blades and get a group at 30 and 40 yards that will wreck the previously shot arrow, when i shoot the 3 blades they plane on me and i get a group like you decsribed. I assumed my bow was a bit out of tune hence the 3 blades planing on me.

I shot beemans until easton bought them out...

After that I bought the eastons and cannot tell the difference. I had the same problem with erratic arrow flight till I tried spitfire mechanicals and have not looked back. The muzzys are good bheads for sure, but they have been lowered to my dog/varmint arrows. Daves right as usual, buy good arrows...

I'm surprised you're that wound up (62lbs) on the nova... She's really meant to shoot at 55... I use one once in a while but me being a skinny shit the let off starts to dick with me after anything longer than about 20 seconds of full draw. I started shooting it with "telephone pole" 2317 then eased up to 2115 on aluminum. Strangely enough it was a cheap store bought one that finally did the trick for better penetration and I have stuck with it since 45-60 carbon rebel...
Same arrow though gives me a bit of a fish tail comming out of my Jennings.
100 on the head made a load of difference as for accuracy and penetration both Muzzy and thunderhead both. I tried a zillion heads... Some reason or another the mechanicals are inconsistent opening off the nova...

C/E hunter selects These are target grade +- .003 instead of .006 They are also 11 grains per inch instead of the 7-9 grain typical of most carbon shafts What I lose in speed I more than make up for with penetration They also are much quieter to shoot because of the extra weight
For broadheads I found that the 90 grain Muzzy 4 blade shoots exactly the same as 100 grain field points This is because the 100 grain Muzzy has more weight forward bias than a field point the 90 has the same It's one of those physics deals Balance one on you finger and you will find that this isn't a fish story
I don't use mechanicals as I shoot 70 pounds of draw weight With the Muzzy 90's I have a pass through out to 40 yds (This is my longest shot I have made) I tried them and I went back to something I can trust every shot I use to have a deer recovery business and I have seen enough to speak with some authority on this

Old School here, 2216 Easton aluminum (carbon arrows scare me)100 grain 4blade Muzzy (and I have also tried a gazillion different brands). I know, I know mechanical broad heads rule but I say B.S. I want a pass through. I want a blood trial. That's bow hunting. Muzzys have never failed me. They shoot just a little low and left, a slight adjustment and I'm on.

    OK fellas...

I know muzzy makes a good head. I am over 200 whitetails at 32 years of age and about 60 came on spitfires. I absolutely love them. The main thing is the same as fishing...go with what you have confidence in and you will perform better. That being said spitfires are the heat...

I'm not sure where you get this as the one I have is rated to 75 lbs and just happens to be at 62lb cause thats where Bass Pro set it originally. That may change Sat.

Thanks for all the info guys! I am leaning on trying the gold tip pro hunters based on some behind the scene discos ions and demonstrations from Sikorski. Since he shoots the same BH I am leaning toward what is proven with the muzzy 3blade 100 grain since that is what i have. If that doesn't work out I may drop to the 90 grain head as striper swiper suggested. EWither way I'm not going to mechanicals doe to the loss of inertia as they open.

I'm headed back to the pro shop on Sat to get this dealt with. The good thing about where I am going is he wont let me leave till its right. What ever way I go I know that I just got a dozen redhead brand ballyhoo eye pokers and should never have a complaint that I don't have one on hand!
