for those that don't want to look at my Blog

I have acquired permission to hunt a piece of land I have been trying to hunt for the last few years. This land is 110 acres of farm land that is the best piece of property for trophy whitetails I have ever seen. This year all the crop is soy beans . The farm has ample cover , food sources , water , funnels and draws. I have started scouting the food sources and have footage of a few monster bucks (130 or better) so far I have seen 20 different bucks ranging from 1 1/2 to around 4 1/2 years of age. The genetics of this herd seem to be excellent and the Buck to doe ration is excellent.

I am going to be very careful of what I take off of this propoerty this year until I get a better handle on the entire herd.

Do any of you have any ideas , suggestions on management techniques you use?

I know I can learn a lot fron the numerous great hunters on SFC. Lets talk about this.

Footage coming soon ... if I can ever figure it out

Dennis, lol the first year myself and brother are the only ones hunting this property ( I hope) this property is amazing and I am committed to learnig every inch and every deer that uses this property in any way ie: food source, travel corridor, home range etc. I am in the process now of develpoing a management plan. I have found that this is a lot of work , I have to get to know the herd to be able to properly identify all deer and thier ages and maturity level. I have a great over head shot of this property that I am using to fing travel routes, food sources , bedding areas etc. My hope for this thread/Blog is to get advice from you guys through me posting my findings and phots/video to harvest a trophy this season I know they are there. So come on Dave help me out what do you do to scout your hutnig spots. prepare for the season?

hope fully Sikorski will join here also

    Hows the new kiddo?

If your serious about managing it for trophy's you definitly need to get the right doe-buck ratio's, some say 2-1.....that would probably mean taking a bunch of does the first few years. The upside to getting a good ratio is a great rut....the bad side is with only 110 acres.....the big deer your trying to manage goes off the property and someone else gets to reep the fruits of your labor. If i had acess to a plot of land like that i would definitly get some mineral stations in...it will get them big in a hurry, you just have to stay with it....like starting in april and keeping it going through october or even later. If your really serious...get with the farmer and plant a food plot in a lot that is out of rotation...thats pretty time consuming ...and probably pricy as well. If its you and your bro......and i assume the farm is in pa, see how many deer you can tag for the owner....is it a working farm? I think they can harvest deer for crop damage but im not sure, ppoint being ...without it you got 2 cracks at taking sub par bucks out of the herd.....which you need to do to manage, but then you get no crack at the shooters that are there already...and im sure theres a few. Good luck.

I wouldn't worry to much about manageing it. Take a few does for the freezer and only shoot bucks you want to mount or cull.

    good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am very serious and have a good understanding of the land , however I want to be realalistic as far as what I can do considering my resourses, My focus is what my bro and I can do to do our part for this land. I have no illusions that I can keep deer on this land seeing how is only 110 acres , however I realll think that we can at least do our part by , taking the amount of does and inferior gened bucks that the land s biology requires. I am in the process of contacting the farmer to see about "red tags " and future food plots . I hope he is open to it. here is a couple sat shots that I put together and will continue to improve upon as I scout more and get to know the land like my Ex girlfriends Big ass LOL
