Anyone a vet?
My dog has gotten Lymes disease for the second time even after being on the vaccine. In her weakened state she has also contracted some sort of infection that is causing her to break out with a rash. The vet has her on Doxycycline, Cephalexin, Rimydil, and Gentavet spray. Does this sound like the right treatment? She looks like she feels horrible and has to wear one of those collars so she doesn't chew her feet and rub her nose on the ground.

This is what the second vet put her on after not getting better for over a week. Just looking for any other opinions before I go to vet #3

I can't speak for the dog, but it was a very long recoupe time for me. You never really do get completely over Lymes in the first place, kinda like the gift that keep's giving. I wouldn't look for her to be back to her old self again for some time. I know that's not what you're getting at, but be patient. If I'm not mistaken anti-biotic's and anti-inflamitory's are the cousre of action. I believe there is a Vet on here, but can't recall his board name at the present. If I come up with it I'll give you a shout. Frank

Thanks Frank, but it is not really the Lymes that have me concerned. She had it about 4 years ago and I know what it did to her and what to expect. Made her real lazy and could not even get up to walk for a while. That seems to have past, she is still lazy but can walk now. It is this infection that she has gotten that has me worried. She has lumps all throughout her skin, her paw pads are bloody and peeling off, her nose is bloody raw, running a fever and she is itching all over. We have been giving her oatmeal baths everynight to relieve the itching, but it does not seem to be getting better.

Now I understand, that sound's like a re-action to med's or something else. Sort of like the hive's. Yes she's only gonna itch and scratch and make it worse. How about some Predisone, it help's for those symptom's. I've had simular with my dog's, a half a pill aday help's enormously. If you can get her over the "hump" she may make out OK. I'd be back at the Vet's when the door's open. Or if I was too worried, I'd get her to the Vet's tonight. Someone is on call, to be sure. Maybe just a phone call tonight wouldn't hurt, let em' know what's going on, let them decide? Frank

Quote:
As for the Lyme's, our boy Sammy was diagnosed w/Lymes when he was 8 and would have a breakout of symptoms once or twice a year (maybe). We were told that it never really leaves the system and that it can effect them all differently. Sammy would go into muscle spasms where it was almost like it was painful for us to touch him (like something was broken), the medication (forget what it was) would be given to him over a period of days and the symptoms would go away. Like I said though I was told once they have it, it was there. All in all, Sammy lived till he was 13. It wasn't Lyme's that took him away from us, but Lymphoma. ![]() Let me know if you'd like me to relay these allergic symptoms to our vet. BTW, since it's the pads of his feet was there any fertilizer or pesticides that were sprayed recently where he runs or walks?

I have an appt. first thing tomorrow morn. I have called them a little while ago and they said they couldn't see her until the morning. I took her to the vet ER 2 weeks ago on Sunday morning and then again last Sat night at about 2 am. They gave her a cool bath to calm the fever and sent her home at about 10 am Sun Morning saying she had an infection. I am thinking like you that she is having some sort of allergic reaction to the large amount of drugs that she is on.
