Should have shot a second one but was feeling nice this morning.
No video, but later I'll tell the pre-dawn story that would have been some sick footage if there was enough light. The 2/3 moon had the field lit up and the bucks and does were mingling.
T/C Encore Pro Hunter w/ a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14x50 on top.
This thing is a sweet shooter. I'm throwing the 100 grain barnes TSX down range. Very happy with the initial results.
I laid in the truck this morning at 5:35 and grabbed 5 more min of shut-eye. DAMN WAKE UP....it's 5:40 time to get dressed and hit the path to the stand. Or is it?
I argued with my lazy side, then got my shit together and headed down the edge of the field. Not 30 yds from the truck a deer spooks in the bottom below me. WELL BELOW....it's a 50 ft cliff.
I got to the top of the hill and started down into the bottom and something caught my eye at my 11 o'clock. Huh...that looks like a pronghorn silhouette on the fence line. HMMM...picked up the rifle and the zeiss gathered enough moonlight to show me a definite animal. The question is, is that the goat that lives in that pasture? or is it a deer?
Seconds later a buck answered my question. He started dogging the mystery shape down the hill. I eased down the hill and argued with myself. Should I stay or should I go? I'd risk spooking them to get to the stand, but if I am not in the stand by light, and they leave I'm SOL anyway.
Well I slowly worked my way into the short CRP grass and could see dark spots moving all around the field. There was pushing, grunting, all sorts of noise.
PFHHPPFHHT....damn...something just blew at me from the bottom behind me. Damn it's time to just slowly push my way to the stand. I thought I completely ruined the morning, but didn't have many options.
Anyway, you already know the ending. 4 came in 3 left!!
I've got backstraps and t-loins stacked like cord wood in the freezer this year.
