    Alabama rut-meat pole

Just back from the last dixie deer hunt of the year. Rut is going on for sure down here with lots of bucks chasing does etc. All day action. This season for me has been enjoyable since I started hunting from the ground again. Walking and stalking adds a new element of excitement and challenge. The last six deer i've taken were all still hunting and it has been a blast. The close up shot of this eight was one I killed tending a hot doe on the first morning and he was fired up grunting his ass off and wouldn't leave the doe for anything. Unfortunately for him she got spooked by my wind eventually but never saw me and reversed back to run right past me into an open sedge field at 145 yds. with him in tow. A short whistle later and he stopped just long enough to allow me a shot and end the romance. Time to break out the grinder!
