BeagleMan and I started the day off by going to the club and letting the beagles run. When we got to the club there was already a good crowd assembled. Everyone drew for stand or turnout spots. In an organized manner everyone was sent to their places. First turn out was a good one. I got run over by the beagles when I was letting them out the box. They actually knocked me down they were so excited to get out. I think they smelled that buck from the truck. They quickly left my feet, and it was not long before I heard the shots. A visitor killed an eight point. We caught the dogs up quickly that time. The second turn out I gave them little beagles more room. They wound up jumping two that time. And leaving the area with one of them. They went clear to the other side of the club and took to chasing one around in a big cutover for a while. Took a little while to get them up this time. When we did, we headed back to the clubhouse. Everyone was taking a lunch break and we decided to leave and go to the farm and sit in the stands for the rest of the evening. The dogs had a plenty by then, and it was HOT!
The evening at the farm was full of does and little ones. I watched a young lookning doe with triplets play under my stand. Boy them little ones can jump. Looked like they had springs in their legs. In the distance I could see more deer, but could not make a shot that far. I counted ten milling around in the other end of the field. On the way out from my stand I picked up a baby kingsnake. (I took him close to the lodge and turned him loose, I did not kill him). BeagleMan had a buck come out on his stand and quickly took him. Not a wall hanger, but it made the farmer very happy to have a ham to make some jerky out of. I am glad to have something other than fish to eat!!!! RoundHead and Tina covered my tower stand for me, they saw some does. And we had Joey in a shot gun stand near some pear and apple trees, but they did not bring him in any deer that evening.
nice report and pics, glad you got some good eats out of the hunt. Is that beagleman getting ready to cut open the heart? Do you eat the heart? I have a few times but it was drowned in butter and onion so I couldn't get a good taste of it.
THoffman, LOL... Naw, we don't eat the heart. Don't know if I could do that. Maybe I could taste it if someone else cooked it, but I do not think I would like it. Our beagles however, do love it. They like it still warm. It is the treat we give them whenever we get a deer. A little reward for all the work they put into running for us.
beaglewoman, no joke, you should try it sometime. That being said I bit off a big chunk of liver and swallowed it on my first deer and thought IT tasted ok too!!! Happy hunting, can't wait for our season, been seeing some decent bucks around my parts lately.
