    6mm Rem Dies---- Free

I have a set of Herter's 6mm Rem sizing and seating dies that I will never use. If any 6mm reloader can use them, send me a PM and they are yours free--- These dies were made in the late '60's and have never been used. I'd like to see someone get some use out of them.

    Thumbs up

My Brother is the only person I ever knew that has a 6mm, but doesn't reload. Most people go with the 243.
    Generuos offer anyway.

Yup, for all intents and purposes they are the same ballistically. Apparantly, the 6mm can be loaded a bit hotter without modifying the casing than the 243 and there are a fair number of varmit hunters that are 6mm purists. I've studied every balistic chart I can find and the two cartridges are essentially the same perfomance wise off the shelf.
An interesting story is that Remington came out with the 6mm a little before Winchester introduced the .243 in the 60's. The only reason that the .243 took off and the 6mm fell to obscurity is that Winchester marketed the daylights out of this cartridge early on while Remington's advertising was focused more on other cartridges.
Be that as it may, I got a steal of steals on my 6mm-- a 700BDL that was bought new by my business partner in the late 60's and was never shot. He's a Yankee City boy that was living in NYC at the time (bought it from the old Ambercrombie & Fitch). He said he bought the gun on a whim thinking he'd like to go deer hunting sometime--- he never did. He overheard me talking to someone on the phone one day saying I was looking for a .243. Said he had a 6mm that has never been shot and does $200 and a load of firewood sound like a fair deal? (Hurricane Isabelle left me with a bunch of downed Oaks)---- it's sure been used the last few years.

    very generous indeed!
Winchester did the same thing with 22 MAG when Remington had the 5mm rimfire. My neighbor has a 5mm and it is a sweet little gun. Up until the last year or so the only rounds available were old stock and going for as much as $100 a box. Centurion started making the rounds again.

Interesting how the marketing killed several of these rounds.

    My 6MM

My 6MM - Remmington BDL that my dad bought about 35 years ago to hunt "chucks" back in PA. I added a new Vari X 3 this year and took it to Wyoming for some long range goat killing.
Generous offer on the dies if anyone needs them, I already have a set. Anyone remember the old Herters book that was like 300 pages and they sold everything outdoor related? I wish I had an old copy - used to spend weeks filpping thru that old book and waiting for the box to show up when dad placed his annual order.
