My dad just reported 4 or 5 does are in the neighbors yard about 175 yds in front of me. Trees are blocking my view. The other neighbors dog must see them b/c he's started to bark now and again.
First neighbor just pulled in the driveway, maybe they'll push the herd my way.
A persimmon just fell and rolled about 3 yds from the blind. There might be some point blank action tonight.
One of the four trotted towards the persimmon @ 100yds and got very cautious. She was staring at something way off to my left. She blew and left. W/ no wind I can't imagine she smelled me.
Someone is having band practice nearby. It's a nice change to the highway noise.
The same 5 from last night just jumped the fence @ 75 yds. and ended up at the wrong persimmon tree. Something from the woods made a screech and it was all she wrote. They ran through the front yard and on to somewhere else.
Another dove just landed, at least they think I'm one of the cypress trees.
Light is fading fast, but it's not over yet.
I'm starting to think I used all of my september mojo on the Elk hunt.
We're back at it again. My friend John and I are 20' up in an oak tree waiting for light. The acorns are fallinf heavy, and there a light breeze. The rain should start by 10. Let's hope it's not early, I'm filming john's first bow hunt.
The hum of the highwaý is a little more distant at this spot, but it's still there.
We just had a doe show uip @ about 50 yds, then she walked by @ 25. I stopped her with a bleat as john drew. She stood @ 23 quartering away w/ the camera rolling, and John struggled to find a good shooting lane. He did the right thing and let her pass.
There was a branch in his sights, and now he's kicking himself for not shooting. It's nice being the one filming and not making the decisions.
Welcome to bow hunting John.
Thank God my elk meat gets here today b/c I just watched a pair of backstraps calmly walk out of range.
