I'm trying to find the difference between a 38 special and a + p round. Will +p pistol shoot a regular 38 the same? I checked a couple o sites but not clear on the difference. I'm sure some of you guys know
A +p is nothing more than a "hot load" meaning it is designed to push the bullet further, faster. Pro: it is hotter... Con: you'll find out real quick if you are gripping your weapon correctly.
If you are carring one of the small "J" frame Smith's made out of Scandium alloy...be prepared, the +p round will have a little more recoil due to the light weight of the firearm.
What is outlined above is always with me...it is a great little, light concealable weapon with some power.
+p is what I pack for my back up in boar season. I run with a stainless Taurus which also serves as my boat gun. A bit heavier piece but can take the swamps and salt water much better. Damn thing has fixed sights and throws low left from where they sit but after years I have that all plugged in my head.
The +P has touch more punch than standard without being so hot it tears up a lot of meat... Just a hotter round than standard but most modern 38 weapons handle them fine. It is a touch louder and a touch more recoil so on the range I tend to stay with plain ol wadcutters... They do make a +P+ but I believe they are limited to law enforcement personel only. That round is similar to a 357 as far as punch.
Thanks for the info and it is a J frame smith and it is with me all the time and mine shoots low and right ordered some crimson trace for it be hete tuesday I do like the way it shoots. I have a older 38 a bit bigger H frame i think Belonged to my dad. Will it shoot the +p?
