1st gobbler, 2nd turkey hunt
It was the first day out in the fields this spring. Brought my roommate who had been turkey hunting once. Went to new land never hunted, got there a bit after 5 and waited till about 6 to hit the owl call and not 30 seconds later got a gobble towards the back of the field. We walked around the edge of the field to set up and spotted a hen before getting to the spot and were forced to set up there. Watched the rest fly off roost and head towards us; 6-8 hens with 2 gobblers. Came within about 60yds and then they went back across to the other side of the field. So we walked further around to a point and set up again. Not there 5 minutes, one of the gobblers gets curious and heads straight towards us. Seconds later, after making his last strut, he bites the dust. Finished the day with a 17 lb bird, 1in spurs, and 10.5in beard. Looking forward to the rest of the season.
