Holy s#@t, what a day, first I had 7 turkey come in to eat my corn and I scared them off, then at 5:50 I see a HUGE 8 pointer walking down the trail and ready to give me a 10yd broad side shot.. But the wide was in a bad direction, He stopped for 10 min sniffing the air and trying to find me in the trees. After no luck finding me, he commits and walks into an opening 10yds away broad side (only shot I have) So I slowly draw the bow back, and just like that.... He darts off..
Now I want to cry because he was about 24" wide (outside) ans had perfect 14 to 15" tines.. My second largest buck I choked on in my life. 10 minutes later 3 doe come into the corn and I had to wack one just to satisfy my hunting abilities.
Oh well I'll be in the tree until the end of the seson now...
The last time I had a shot at a deer that size was back in 1994 it was a 170 class 12 pointer... Since then I have had no shots at anything bigger than 120... And that deer did the same thing, as soon as I drew back, it took off. THEY ARE SMART SON OF A BAMBI"S..
And... I hunt 40 to 80 times a year... so I put my time in, I just hope it dont take another 12 years.
really interested to hear if you see/get another chance at this awesome buck. My few experiences with great bucks like that are always 1 and done. I never see them again.
Guys, I hunted every day since the day I saw that buck, he has not showed up again, And I'm not getting him in my trail camera either. I think he was from another set of woods just cruising through.. Oh well.
