Headed south to find some open water today, and ducks, and we found them! Slow morning, the spot we set up was where they were flying out of. We watched as groups of mallards flew over us before legal shooting. By legal shooting, most were out of town. We ended up with 4 in the morning, an eider, 2 buffle heads, and a hooded meganser. The coolest thing this morning was out of the corner of my eye i see a bufflehead flying low about 30 yards out, screaming fast. I didnt have time to throw the gun up, so i shot from the hip, and drilled itThe duck hit the water and skipped across it like a stone. From when i saw the duck to when i shot was no more than half a second. Pretty lucky shot
We hopped into a new spot after lunch around 1 and had steady action the rest of the day. Mallards, buffle heads, black ducks, megansers, and brant kept us busy. At one point we had 25 brant come in and decoy, and we shot three. Could have shot more mallards, but it was getting tough to retreive them in the fading light. A great day, and Travis had a great birthday!
