    12-17-09 MA ducks

Headed out this morning with Travis. COLDDDDDD and windy! Launched the boat and headed out to the spot. Lots of ducks flying early, we only managed 3 wood ducks, the only ducks that decoyed. 2 beautiful males and one female. After school I went out to a spot where I can jump some from shore. Jumped up a pair of hen mallards, hit both, but only one died. My 11 year old lab with no training retreived it for me, after going out 4 times to play with it I told her to ''get the duck NOW!" and she actually did! I was pretty excited about that. I had one shell left and knew there would be some ducks coming out at dark, so I parked the truck and waited for some to fly by. The first flock came into range, and I dropped the lead duck, a nice drake mallard. Fun day, but man was it cold! Not to mention the leak I had in my left wader boot this morning...

That's a nice spread of good eaters. I'm surprised the woodies are still up there with you. We still have a few around MD, but I'd imagine that after the snow this weekend most of them will be headed to NC and point south.

    Congrats on a good shoot.

Nice picts and a good hunt up theya in the cold. First drake woody I ever saw, back when I was a kid, blew my mind with how beautiful it was. Same as when I looked at your pictures. Beautiful birds, they are, and a real gift for us to be able to hunt. Thanks for the report.
