BeagleMan and I hunted the hounds at Briar Creek this past weekend and came up with a nanny. There were several bucks and the one doe killed. The weather was nice for the first time this year so we stayed the whole day.

Great pictures. Please dont think I'm attacking this post.. I have heard of people running deer with dogs down south but I've never been part of it and I'm not judging...trust me. I think hunting is great part of who we all are and don't care how were doing it as long as it's legal and were teaching some young kids and passing it along.
We do deer drives up here and push pieces of land where we know the deer funnel. We have drivers and standers and basically walk the woods.
Do the deer make a circle when they are run or follow the trails?
Up here we see dogs running deer occasionally but it is either a stray or someones pet that some owner has no control over.
SWEET REPORT! Only one more week and then its on!!![]()
very nice pics as always, missed Ratman this time
does tend to circle....bucks light out for the next bottom and tend to get gone.
The way we do it is for one person to walk with each pack of beagles, number of packs depends on the size of the block you are hunting. Standers line it up at trails/roads/bottoms etc.
I think its a heck of a lot safer than man drives, and contrary to popular belief, a heck of a lot more deer get away then get shot.
N2, thank you for that reply, that describes it pretty well. It is really a lot like a man drive, only you have a little company in the woods.
RatMan was there, but some how I missed taking her pic.
no problem, those are some great looking beagles you have there! my uncle had a red one that was the best dog I have ever seen. He knew the area we hunted better than us or the deer, knew all the shortcuts and where they'd be going. He was something. One time we were running a block behind my house, and i saw a big ol buck with three drop tines come out from across a field. The main pack (red's sons and daughters) came out about 30 yards behind. Red himself was about 20 yards behind him. That ol buck hit a creek bottom and turned down it where my uncle was waiting, and somehow Red took a shortcut and was the first one to arrive and jump on that buck. He was a hell of a dog.
Its the only deer hunting I do, I'm just not much on freeaing my butt off in a stand for hours.
