So welcome to the board, I am glad John has a forum for you guys and gals - remember guys this is for our younger members, tell me your stories elsewhere.
So who got you started fishing, or what got you to decide to start fishing?
My grandfather started me when I was 6, started fishing for drum and flounder. When he passed away a few years ago we had spent nearly 100's of days on the water fishing together. I miss fishing with him but I am soo glad he got me on the water and showed me the ropes.
Glad you are here and looking forward to hearing about some of your fishing stories.
I'll answer for my daughter... I'd like to think it was me but it seems any of her friends who fish get her fired up and competitive. They catch one and she's compelled to get a bigger one or more... Don't know where she gets that from ...

my father, grandfather, and all my uncles were always fishing. i liked it when i was a kid but never really got into it as much as i am now. i was always into other sports such as baseball then hockey and finally golf but now am all about the fishing
my grandfather and father in kitty hawk NC. when i was about 4. for anything we could catch off the pier and then we moved to party/charters and now i fish for the big game offshore.
I GOT STARTED FISHING THE CREEKS AND LOCAL PONDS THAT I BEGGED FOR THE OWNERS TO ALLOW ME TOMACCESS............AND RICHARD PETTY HIMSELF GAVE ME PERMISSION TO FISH HIS PONDS .........
I started fishing when I was 3 years old. My dad bought me one of those, easy, cast and learn rods! I caught little bluegills when we went on vacation in Florida. Then I would catch flounder, croaker and other little fish. There is no way I could have done it without my dad! It's in my blood and in my heart.
My grandfather, at the age of 5 we would fish the jetty in stoney creek conn. by thimble islands where I grew up for weakfish and snapers and bluefish by the age 8 we moved to west haven conn. a block from the sound got my fisrt
boat at 10 years old w/a 10 hp on her I would chase the schools of blues all
over the long island sound to new haven break walls to morning side in milford
from 7am till 6pm my mother and father would say where in the hell have to
been I said fishing at first I got grounded then they saw the love I had for the
sport and said be carefull I would fish everyday even before school thank god
my highschool was across the street from the beach would catch stripers than go to school before homeroom started (sweet) my mother new I was sick for fishing (thanks grandpa) I'll never forget ya .
My dad introduced me to fishing while we were vacationing in the Pocono Mountains of PA. Every summer we would go there for a vacation and he would take me to a trout hatchery for fishing. After being introduced, I kind of took it up on my own since my Dad wasn't a big fisherman.
This past summer I took my family up there for a summer vacation and brought my 4-year old son Adam to the same trout hatchery. It wasn't the first time that I have taken him fishing with me, but I wanted him to see where I started.
I can remember around 7-8 I asked my dad to take me fishing. He wasn't to into it at the time but he dug up some rods from my grandfather and took me surf fishing at Townsends inet. We caught a couple of sharks and then hooked into what turned out to be, to this day, the biggest Weakie I have ever seen.......the problem is, being 7-8, I wasn't that tall and the fish got caught up in the wake as I was reeling it in and I lost the fish.
I then started fishing good old Darby Creek for trout and suckers....mostly suckers but it was fun just catching a fish. As I got older I went out on Charter boats and caught my first 12lb bluefish when I was 12 years old....it was great.
When I was in my early 20's, I lost interest......I was in a band, playing a couple of nights a week and just didn't have the time.....
My father got into fishing around that time. Him and my uncle (his best friend at the time) would go out EVERY weekend and bring home stories about a million different things that went wrong and right. My father was very happy.
My uncle had a stroke and passed away about 5 years ago and my father was miserable. He just never went fishing anymore. He lost his best friend and it was tough on him. At the time I had a little 15' bass boat I was toying around lakes with but decided to upgrade to something a bit more sea worthy. I bought the 21' CC and started taking my dad fishing again. We had a good summer last year. He got busy with my neice and nephew this summer and my mothers health problems have kept him off the boat this year but he said he would make time for Striper season. Hopefully that will happen. I miss fishing with the man. We had some great talks last year.
