    Voyager Blackfish and Offshore Seabass

    12/27 blackfish

A friend and I went out on the Voyager Thursday. We left the dock a little late because the Capt. wanted to wait so we could safely leave the inlet. Well it was sloppy out there. On the way out you look to the side where land was then a couple seconds later all you see is a wall of water. Fishing was tough due to the big swells. I got 2 shorts and my friend Eben got a keeper and short. We had the keeper alive and decided it was best to let the little guy go back home and released him before heading in. Shot right down to the bottom. Capt. Tried hard but the fish just didn't want to cooperate. Maybe next time.

    12/28 Seabass

A friend and I went out on the Voyager yesterday. It was both of our first time doing an offshore trip on the boat and needless to say we were very pleased with their operation. We were on the 24 man trip and that was sweet. The ride out was very comfortable. We were anchored and fishing before sunrise and within minutes there were seabass coming over the rails. My first two hook ups were a little disappointing, dog fish. There really weren't many of those "endangered" beasts landed thankfully. The choggies, bergalls, cunners what ever you want to call them were fierce on the wrecks. If your bait survived the attack wave from them you were rewarded with a seabass or a mutant porgy. I have never seen porgies of that size before. Some were over 19inches. The biggest one I got was 18 inches and I drop down and hooked up again and thought it was another huge scup but to my surprise it was a double a 3 pound seabass and a keeper codfish. I did start my own size limit on scup only keeping 16inch or better and had about 6 that size along with another 6 that were nice sized as well. I ended up with 14 seabass a dozen porgy and a cod. My friend Eben got 14 seabass and about the same amount of porgies. I look forward to sailing with Capt. Jeff again soon.

I never really go much in December. I always went more in January. I got another trip booked on the 22 or 23 but will probably find time to go in between then
