Son's officially a billfisherman

Surprised my 9 year old (JW) with a Spring Break Fishing Trip. Fished with Bouncer Smith in Miami for 3 days. We fished swords the first afternoon with no luck. Kite fished sails the next two days and fished tarpon each night. I was worried about him being able yto handle the fish, but like everything else, he proved himself very capable.

Here's the score card

Tom Jr. (Me)

1 sailfish (released)
4 tarpon to 90 lbs (released)
1 mutton snapper
1 almaco jack (released)
1 barracuda (released)

John William (JW)

3 sailfish 45 lbs, 60 lbs, 45 lbs (tagged and released)
1 white marlin 50 lbs (tagged and released)
11 tarpon to 100 lbs (released)
5 mutton snapper
6 dolphin to 15 lbs(mahi)
1 kingfish

When we got home, he wrote his list of 9 billfish species and crossed of the white and the sail. He's already asking to go again and cross another species off.

Did the the whitey come up on a kite bait?

The white surprised us too. It did hit a kite bait, and in 125' of water. Shallowest white we have ever caught. Watching him light up and hit the bait with his dorsal exposed was awesome.
