After being stuck on land since the beginning of November I was finally able to get out codfishing. I received a phone call yesterday as soon as I got done with work and was told to skip out on a day of class for today to do some codfishing, well I am glad I did. This had to be one of the best cod trips I have ever been on Capt Mike was at the helm and took us to where he went yesterday and he did a great job putting us on the fish. I started out the day fishing with a 10oz lav and a blue fly and that is all I used all day. Never once did I touch bait. I picked 2 cod right off the bat and rolled 2. I then moved into the stern where the bite really was. Eben soon followed me. Fishing was just plain sick. We were sitting on anchor and it would be a little slow then the fish would move through in a strike and all the rods would bend with cod. I personally had 3 double headers. All cod caught were mostly keepers not too many shorts. Captain Mike really outdid himself with this trip. He really exceeded my expectations with this trip. On top of my good catch of cod I also won the pool. My dad, Eben and I had a blast jigging cod in shallow water like we were in today.

Now thats what I am talking about ckonkol. I can't wait to get out and do some cod fishing, a good way to forget that it is winter up here in the NE.............

My dad and Eben are going back out tomorrow. I can't make it because I can't miss the same class again.

Once again a very articulate report written by you. Maybe we will see you out on one of the trips prior to me getting Relentless in the water. It sounds like you have been keeping busy with the cod fishing and keep up the reports.

My dad and Eben called me with the report. They were joined with 73 other fishermen on the boat. At 9:30 my dad had 2 keepers while Eben had 1. At 10:30 I was sitting in class when my phone went off due to a text from my dad to say he was up to 3 keepers while Eben was at 1. I tried calling him around 3, 3:30, 4, 4:30 and got no answer come to find out the boat didn't get in until around 5. My dads total for the day was 7 cod and Eben had 5keepers. Overall I don't think it was too bad a day for a local day trip and that there were 75 people on the boat. My dad was using a 10oz lav and a blue fly. I let him bring my combo and after this trip I do not think I will be able to get my hands on it again since he liked it soo much.

Here's a couple of shots from the mid eighties aboard the Gail Frances. Man, I miss codfishing. These fish were caught by 11am. and we were on our way to the second drop of the day. Should have brought more coolers.

Now that's what I call filling the coolers! WTG! I can't wait to get out for a sea bass trip! Hopefully we'll be able to pack the fish into the coolers as well as you have!
