    Frances Fleet 8/9-8/10

    Frances Fleet 8/9 - 8/10

My dad Eben and I decided to fish the Frances Fleet over the weekend on the 7am boat. Saturday we were fishing in our usual spot in the pulpit. I started out using a hi low spro rig with a green spro on top and a smiling bill on the bottom. I got 3 keepers on this rig before I lost it to the bottom. Once I lost it i switched to a bait rig that I had setup with a pink ballyhoo duster on top and a green one on the bottom. A couple minutes into fishing this rig I hooked up into a nice fish that was taking some drag which is more than any of the fish I have caught this season I get the fish to the surface and into the net. This fish happens to be a potential pool fish and it the biggest fluke of the season for me. This fish weighed 7pounds and later ended up being the pool fish. Eben had 4 keepers including the second largest fish that weighed in at 6.5lbs. My dad had a tough day. He got 3 keepers and is now in need of a new rod due to his st croix snapping while reeling in a fish.

Sunday My dad and Eben fished in the port stern corner and I fished right where the front of the cabin ended as we couldn't get the pulpit. I started fishing with a spro hi lo rig with a 1/2bunker spro on top and a 3/8oz green mudkicker spro on the bottom. First drift a couple minutes in I had a nice keeper in the boat. A few minutes later I find out Eben got a nice fluke in the 7pound range while my dad got a nice seabass. My friend Kyle got 2 seabass while my friend Cory got a bluefish this drift. Next drift Kyle got 2 keeper fluke and I managed another keeper and lost another while I tried to swing it. Cory got 2 keepers this drift. My dad got a short fluke which would be his only fluke of the day. He really had a tough day the first day in years that he hasn't gotten a keeper fluke. Eben on the other hand was doing quite well. As the day wore on the drift picked up a little. At one point it got slow and I had been talking and I got a hit but missed then it comes back and I have the fish this time and it feels like something good my drags going out and the fish is staying down so its not a blue Then I see color and turns out to be not one but 2 fluke one about 21inches the other 19.5inches. Thats my first double of the season. Then Capt. Rich says ok guys we will give it 10 more minutes I get one more short and drop back down and 10 minutes goes by and he says lets give it 5 more minutes. Then Rich comes out of the wheel house and asks me where that double digit fluke is that I have been after for a while and I said to him give me one more drift to see what happens. He walks away then my line gets really heavy and starts taking off. I get a little discouraged thinking its a blue as my line is going out but staying down and there is no head shaking. This is how the whole fight goes drag pulling out and no head shakes when finally color appears and I am shocked and what I see. It is not a blue at all but a fluke, a very nice fluke too. My friend Kyle grabs the net right between us and goes to net the fish and it lunges out of the net and we finally net it on take two and this fish measured out at 27inches and hit the scale at 9.5 pounds which is my largest fluke to date. This fish was the only fish I had that came in on the green mudkicker spro. I totaled 4fluke up to 9.5lbs which won me the pool again, Eben got 8 fluke to 7pounds, my dad got 1 seabass, Kyle got 5 fluke and a seabass and Cory got 3 fluke. I can't wait to get back out there soon
