Prindle 19 catamaran and trailer Vehicle Description Catius; a rocket ship The Prindle 19â??, 2.5â?? (5.85m) http://www.nacra.us/Prindles/Prindle19.pdf has been described as the first of the rocket ships. The successors being Nacraâ??s, Hobie Tigers, Inters and the like. Iâ??ve owned and loved Catius for five years. I recently turned sixty and I just bought a Sovereign pocket cruiser (small sloop) a couple of weeks ago on eBay. The previous owner sailed Catius a number of times in the Statue of Liberty race along with 50 to100 other catamarans and trimarans. He stepped up to a Mystere 6.0. Iâ??m sure heâ??d be willing to talk with you if you wished â?? he was very committed to Catius. Sandy Hook Bay Catamaran Club - http://www.fleet250.org/ CATIUS A Roman divinity, who was invoked under the name of divus Catius pater to grant prudence and thoughtfulness to children at the time when their consciousness was beginning to awaken. (63.5cm) Sail Area . . . . 247 sq. ft. (22.95m2) Weight. . . . . . . . . 385 lbs. (174 kg) Mast Length. . . . . . 30â?? 3â?? (9.22m) Catius is wonderful boat. However, a happy Catius owner will be an experienced sailor, perhaps with Hobie 14â?? or 18â?? experience. You should be mechanically minded and welcome making minor repairs and tweaks to keep it singing. The rudder kick-up is usually pretty reliable but can be finicky in high winds. Iâ??m not sure if the mast is fully sealed. This only matters if you capsize of course. The Catius is very stable at high speed and heavy chop. It seems to completely resist pitch polling. Iâ??ve only flipped once and it happened while I was solo sailing. Iâ??m not sure Iâ??d recommend sailing alone but remember that Iâ??m sixty. The finish and overall contours are close to perfect as you can see from the photos. Five years ago we carefully stripped Catius down to the primer and properly filled any scratches with West Systems epoxy and fiber glass products. She is finished with duPont Imron, two part polyurethane using a HDLV gun in a spray tent. We did discover that dings and scratches can be effectively painted with duPont Imron using a brush. Catius currently has a few scratches on the forward, port hull from a recent encounter with a trapeze seat hook in high winds. I plan to epoxy fill and paint the scratches when the boat comes out of the water (Itâ??s still on rack (see photo) in Barnegat Bay) provided it is warm enough to cure(>25C/) . Catius is a very light boat for its size. I did have to carefully reinforce the keel (added ~2 lbs. of glass mat & epoxy) while maintaining contours. This was necessary because the keel wouldnâ??t tolerate the focused pressure of being rolled up on the racks. Iâ??d expect that thisâ??ll also enhance its trailorability. Iâ??d be happy to give the buyer an ample clinic on epoxy fiber glassing and Imron finishing. There is a small crack in the starboard rudder casting that you can see in the labeled photo. This crack was there when I purchased Catius. The crack hasnâ??t changed nor does it have any adverse impact that Iâ??m aware of. The sails are well used but quite serviceable. There are some minor separations at the luff batten pockets. This is the kind of thing that I wouldnâ??t worry about until the sails go to a loft for another reason. Likewise, the trampoline has a small, repairable tear in the storage pocket, not the trampoline itself. I think that the starboard port hole cover needs to be replaced â?? Murrayâ??s is good resource. Standing rigging and all sheets and lines are perfect. The trailer is a rusty but sound and I think it was built for a Hobie 16â??. I had the tongue extended to allow for the additional length of the Prindle 19â??. 1976 HOBIE CAT 16' SAILBOAT & CALKINS TRAILER CATAMARAN Vehicle Description This is a very nice 16' 1976 HobieCat sailboat and Calkins trailer. The boat comes with a trailer, rudder, tiller, mast, boom, rigging and sails. The hulls are water tight and have no soft spots, just a few scuffs from use over the years. One of the hulls is a different shade of yellow, faded a bit from the sun, please see pictures. The sails are in good shape, however the ropes might need to be replaced. The boat has not been used in the past few years, however it was a lot of fun when in use and worked great. Please keep in mind that this is an older boat and is not in new condition.
