Mostly 15-18 inchers but a couple few over twenty mixed in, all on artificials. That tide seemed to fall forever today with the help of the wind keeping it in, it sure helped prolong the bite!. Kept three for dinner plus the flounder, all others lived to see another day:)

The trout fishing has been strong in the Wrightsville Beach area. Today we caught several and some I would call mid size Gators...most were caught on DOA Shrimp as well as chartreuse Gulp baitfish pattern on 1/4 oz Hank Browns. I have been jacked up after learning a lot with Capt Lee's Mirrorlure tips but today I couldn't get bit on the Mirrorlure. It was mid day with clear skies and I wonder if the bright skies worked against us with the bigger hard baits. In any event I can't wait for the water temps to lower. In addition to the trout we caught 3 hungry flounder. Great day to be on the water and ready to get back out there! Happy Thanksgiving and good fishing too all

We scarpped our plans to hit the CL Jetty this morning as it was very foggy here and the ferry was backed up so we decided to fish the river. Phil and myself were prepared for anything, ML's, bugs and 3d's, we started on the north side of the river with Phil snagging 2 spikes. Fog started to burn off so we moved up the river and found another spike so we went to the south side. Neither of us have fished the south side very much and we didn't have a gps on the little boat so we kinda thought we knew where we were

Passed a few guys anchored up going in a creek so we started throwing the stick baits until we found the fish in a side bay. I got hit twice by something big but couldn't keep it on the line. I deployed the bugs out back and started back throwing the Yozuri and get hammered, head shake then a good run. Man we are thinking a 8lb. speck, but our hopes were dashed when a nice 20in. 7lb. striper rolled up, quick pic and released.

The bugs start doing their thing and we get a couple 18in. specks and several pull off. Phil switches to a carolina rig and sends a bug to the bottom, instant hook up and the fight is on!!!! Fish ran out into open water, down deep, head shaking like crazy, ready with the net!! Phil used very little drag and let the fish wear down before we tried to net it, one last head shake and here comes the treble hook, we nearly cried. Hard to tell what it was as I only got a glimpse of the fish right before it came off, looked like a very, very nice speck but it could have been another striper by the tenacious runs it put on. Water was very nasty and you could only see down a foot or so. Managed a couple small pups a piece on the cork baits and I got another striper that gave a good tug on the line. Finished off with Phil snagging a short flounder, the bite fell off, managed to catch everything in a 200ft. area of shore line. Not sure what kinda slams we ended up with but it was fast, fun action.

With the increasing NE wind we knew we needed to getback across the river soon, bouncy ride but we made it back to the creek and decided to try a good spot before hauling out. Throwing the Yozuris and ML's we find specks quick and I manage another nice fat 18in. fish for the box, nary a whiff on the bugs??? Good day, 2 Stripers released, 3 fat specks in the box, 2 pups released, 1 flounder released, 7 small specks released and the mystery monster fish that gave Phil a heck of a workout.

My favorite time of year is finally here! Cooler temperatures mean lot's of redfish. Whether you are fishing Pensacola pass, Destin pass, or Panama City pass, expect to see lot's of bull red action. If you are searching for slot fish then you can't go wrong with hitting any of the upper bay systems. Right now we are seeing schools of hundreds of fish in Panama City's west bay. These fish can be extremely skittish so light line and small baits are key. Also, the smaller the boat the better. You don't want to make your presence known since these fish are getting lot's of fishing pressure. The breakfast point area, muddy bayou bank, and the mouth of all the canals on the north bank are producing good fish. White jerk shad or a 1/8oz gold spoon is the bait of choice. I would suggest going down to 10lb test flourocarbon on some of these fish. They can be very stingy!!

Choctawhatchee bay has just recently became one of my favorite bay systems on the panhandle. Unlike the Panama City fish....the Choctawhatchee bay redfish eat! We were sightfishing singles and doubles all morning catching 1 fish after another. A small bucktail jig or a pearl white jerk shad was the prefered bait. We saw 90% of our fish on the north bank on sandy bottoms. Check out the first pic....it was from today's trip. There is nothing I love more than sightfishing in crystal clear water!

The upper bays in Pensacola are producing quality fish as well. I had a trip on Monday and we put 11 reds and several nice trout in the boat. Most of them were caught on a 1/4oz weedless gold spoon. Blackwater and Escambia bay will continue to gett better as the water temperature drops.

I will continue to run specialized redfish trips throughout the winter. These trips are for people strictly wanting to learn how to target winter time, shallow water, reds. Each trip with consist of knot tying, proper baits, tides, hot spots, and lot's of redfish catching! I will run these specialized trips through April 1st. This years price will be $250 for 1 angler, and 50$ for each additional angler. Book now! Slots for November are filling up!

Stay tuned for more reports and pics throughout the winter. The redfishing will only get better...

Fish were deep in the hole and the smaller ML and Yozuris just didn't get down quick enough. So I dug around in the bag and found a 51MR704 that felt heavier than a 52 and did it get down quick. Several fish hit it on the drop, or on the first twitch! Caught 6, 2lbs. plus all released before the skeeters became unbearable. Water wasn't as high as the other day so I only had the marsh mud stench to deal with:D. Though it was cool having the fish swimming 3ft from your knees! Sorry no pics, little too wet for quality camera work:D

A month earlier my neighbor Dr.Leon asked me when we were going fishing this year ? .........
Now, Dr.Leon is a busy man, with a lot on his plate, that loves to golf & not really into fishing ........

The same day I get an email from Dr. Leon, I receive a phone call from Capt. John about needing to go fishing on his day off .......
Both want to go fishing on the same day, how lucky can I be - the pressure is off me . [ Note to self - but lotto ticket today ] ......
Yessss! - I get to fish .......
Just hoping the Doctor & the Captain can play well together, this is going to be simple easy, right ? WRONG!

Have not forgotten about Phil ? You have you ? Haven't you ?
This fishing with Phil & Dr. Leon, after all ......

Get the second phone call the night before from Capt. John.
Something about teaching Phil how to oyster & is it okay to bring Phil ? .........
Sure, Phil's cool & maybe they will get me some clams ........
Phil's a good guy, been fishing on Phil's boat & had a good time - but didn't catch fish ........
Come to think of it no one every catches fish with Phil, not even Capt. John - this could be a problem .........
Phil's getting this reputation as being bad luck, Phil's cool & will keep Dr.Leon from looking bad .........

Just hoping the Doctor, the Captain & the Contractor can play well together ........ While I'm fishing ......

It's early when we all meet, make introductions, the Cat is finally loaded with hardly any room to move .....
Buckets for oystering - check
Speck rods - check
Surf rods - check
Surf cart - check
3 pairs of Waders - problem !
3 rain jackets - problem !

We get out at high tide trolling MirrOlure's, start catching fish, Lizardfish ......
Dr.Leon is having a good time, while Phil's reputation is turning around & the Skunk is off the boat ......
Stop to talk with Big Wave Dave & he tells us about only catching a 2 spike Specks,
the large school of finicky Reds & the Blues on steroids, outside the inlet .....
Capt. John gives me a strange look, I am thinking it had something to do with calling him a " gun nut " earlier,
until he says " Let's get on those Blues with topwater plugs ....." and " it's gun enthusiast ....."

Sunny, calm seas, clear water & another boat catching fish ........ Conditions are perfect.
Things are not so perfect for Phil ( he's cool ) & Dr.Leon, both can not cast very far.
While Capt. John has his first, then his second Blue on topwater ........
I take time to give them a quick lesson on casting while Capt. John is running the boat & they are still not catching Blues .......
I am busy untangling, retyping rigs & finally it happens ....
Phil ( he's cool ) bust a guide out of one of my rods - Phil is no longer cool, but he is hooked up & that's cool ..........
Leon's hooks up ( he's cool ) & I still have not fished & that's not cool ......

Both Phil & Dr.Leon wore themselves & the Blues out - but we wanted Reds & they needed a break .........
Kept a few for bait & decide make a lunch run, some quite reflective time - Capt. John style ........
Now, Capt. John has a lot of life experience, down home wisdom & a story for most every occasion -
Let's see there's " The 3 F's .... " or was it
"The Tiger, The Jaguar & The Jack Ass...... " ( this is a real gem )
Maybe the realization that pork makes everything taste better .....

This tale could end here & you would never know about all the fish caught & by whom ?......
Or did Phil ( he's cool again ) break his bad luck cycle ?.......
Or is Dr.Leon ever going fishing again ?........
And, what about Scalez, All Day Ray & David C ?.........

But for those not familiar with Capt. John fishing style, let me just say " hardcore " is an under statement .......
Extreme Radical Combat Fishing with maximum results is more like it ....
More to come ..........ICM

Got a call to wet a hook this afternoon from my buddy Phil, sure grabbed a few bugs and new MLure that I just knew would be the hot bait! Got to the ramp before lunch and headed to Bay River and set up where we had caught fish during the Shriners Tourney a few weeks ago. Boy was it slow, alot of boat traffic and a netter came up and left. Things settled, with 2 bugs out we waited for them to get hammered and we waited, waited , waited, well you get the picture, time to move. I worked the new ML 17MR EGBG, with out a nibble as we worked the creek, water was very clear, finally I switched to a ML that had never been opened, S38MR MG. First cast let it sink as we were in 15ft. of water, twitch and BAM! nice fish on, short fight and a good 3lber in the net that literally inhaled the ML.

Phil sticks with his Yozuri 3D, which has put alot of specks to the boat the last 2 weeks. He gets a nice 1.5-2 lb fish quickly, the bugs still haven't been hit. We move to another hole and the first bug goes down, another nice 2lb. fish on ice. I pick up a baby speck maybe 10in. on the biggest bug in the live well:eek: Pretty slow so we move down river and try working some pot lines and Phil gets the tiny fish of the day award, a 7-8in. sand perch on the 3D.

Sun starting to set and we don't have but maybe a hour before we are going to the dock in the dark. Move to a open water spot, 7-9ft. and send a bug out and we work the marsh and open water with the stick baits. I get a good strike on the ML, cast again and hook a good fish and the bug come tight at the same time:D Release the cork fish and Phil nets me another nice 2lb. fish, now we have fish tearing up bait all around us. I manage a couple more fish on the ML and finish with another on the bug bait. I'm sure we could have sat there and limited out but sun was on the horizon and we got to the ramp as it disappeared. Finished with 6 fish, biggest 3lb., released another 10 or so. I'm starting to get the hang of the MLures, Lee!!!

Hi All,
I will be in Beaufort SC from Christmas to the 1st of the year visiting my son who is in the Marine Corps and is stationed there. Is there any fishing to be had this time of the year? He has basically learned very little about the fishing in the year or so that he has been there. He has been out kingfishing a couple of times on his Staff Sergeant's boat, but that's about it. Any help would be appreciated. It's been too long since I was able to fish with my boy.
Thanks,
