OK here it is. Did a decarb on my carbed merc before winterizing and used Merc power tune ad directed on the can. Let it sit a few hours and took it up the lake for a run. She started (Smoked like a pig but soon cleared) went for a run and it shutters and vibrates wicked bad under load and will not rev up under load. Normal WOT speed is 42mph trimmed and light. I can not get her over 27 mph trimmed and light. Changed out the plugs thinking the decarb fould a plug or 2. Same problem. Changed filters and took a fuel sample thinking it was unrelated to the decarb and i just got some bad fuel. Fuel is clean. Ran it on a 6 gallon remote tank still the same.

The motor runs ok at idel and starts. It is a little tempermental when starting cold. The throttle is fairly responsive in nutral. It makes no unusual noises when starting or running and does not smoke more then usual.

Did the typical test and here is were i am so far. Fuel delivery and presure is good. As are the carbs (rebuilt in the spring). Did a compression test and had good even #'s. All cylinders in the upper 1 teens across the board 5lbs Between the highest and lowest. Next was electrical. Spark test at each cylinder revieled nice blue spark at 7/16 gap also across the board. So my next thought was to look for a short or jumping spark so i fired her up in the dark. Again all was good with no jumping sparks. Got the lights back on and started looking over the entire motor for signs of a loose or broken wire, or hose or disconected linkage. And there it was staring me right in the face through the space between the top and middle carb. A split in the fuel enrichment valve hose. The hose that goes from the middle carb down to the bottom carb had a 1.5" long split along its length were it connects to the middle carb's barbed fitting. The only thing that was holding it on the barbed fitting was the fact it was 10 years old and was stiff and formed to its location. There was enough length to cut off the split section so i cut it off, re routed it and reconnected it. I will be dropping it in the local lake tomorrow for a test run. I do plan on getting a new hose so it can be routed properly. I do know this find will help with the cold starts but not sure how that system leak would affect the perfomance of the engine durring normal opperation in the upper RPM range under load. Would the split in this hose cause some sort of a Vacume leak in the carb? Tomorrow will tell the tale.

It does run noticeably smoother at idle. If this is not it then i am kinda lost. The basic elements required for an older carbed engine to run are all present and working, Fuel, Spark & Compression.

The Merc Power tune for the Decarb was not introduced into the fuel system it was sprayed directly into the throat of each carb as directed while running the motor. Both Filters are new and fuel lines were replaced in the spring when i rebuilt the carbs..

Any advice or coments are welcome.

Started yesterday... Suddenly throwing every code in the book. Nothing wrong with engine but DDEC and sensors all over the place. I'm getting code for too much oil pressure, turbo boost, coolant temperature, fuel temperature... Reading over 63 pounds oil pressure and 25 pounds boost but reading 0-maybe 25 degrees temp. Wont let engine drop to low idle and is dumping fuel like it does for cold engine...

Half way through today it all came right. All reading just fine. After docking and shhutting down. Just checked and back to showing over max oil pressure and 0 degrees engine temp...

Killed power to it and no reaction. Turned ddec switch to back up on that side and it killed both sides?

Any ideas? Has anyone ever had to fix one like this or change it out? I have no idea what is involved...

I have had this problem since I bought the boat, "porpoising". The boat runs very smooth until I hit a wake at that point it starts to porpoising. The only way I can stop it is to slow down drastically. Even if I am not going fast I still have the same problem. It almost seems that there is not enough weight forward. Also the bow comes up high if I throttle up slow. What I need to do is to throttle up fast get up on a plane then back down. This is the first center console I have owned. Is this normal? Or does anyone have any ideas how to end this.
Thanks,

Bought a 1995 Navy RIB tender with Cummins 5.9L diesel/Konrad outdrive. Repowering with twin Suzuki 150's. Selling the diesel/trans/outdrive/gauges/controls/Engine and Gear Fast Lube Change System (FLOCS)/electrical harness/raw water strainer system/engine mounts/...........in other words everything except the bilge pump. The engine/outdrive has 526 hours. The Konrad outdrive sells for 11k new, supposed to be the best. The Navy went 1st class on the whole boat, cost us taxpayers $135,000 new. It has over 30k worth of stainless. The boat has stainless lift points that are 1inch thick that the Naval Cruiser would use when hoisting aboard. The Navy got the most dependable everything including the power train.
I am putting the engine on a metal stand to set on a pallet for shipping. Make me an offer.

I'm considering a 75 38' Egg sportfisher with original 671's with 700 hours. I know nothing about diesel engines and I guess I should have an engine survey but are there any tips anyone can give me about evaluating this deal? The asking price is 10K which seems good. also Has an diesel Onan gen with similar hours. The house is wood which of course can be a big problem but the pictures and the owner say the wood is in great condition. Leaking windows are a known problem with this vessel and I'll check that out.
The reason for the low hours (according to the seller's story) is that the original owner used it only 20 hours a year then put it in dry dock for about 7 years. the current owner bought it 2 years ago , changed all hoses etc and used it as a fishing boat, for hire, from Long Island out to the Canyon about a dozen times.
thanks for any tips you can give me.

We will likely be doing this work sometime after Jan1 and will hopefully be done by March sometime.
I am trying to line up another boat to run while we have the Bite Me in the yard, so if you want to go fishin this winter, I think we will be able to go.

We are going to finish out the year fishing but I can't wait to get started on the new motor install!

Thinking of repowering or rebuilding.

My ? is if I repower with new engines and gears, with most configurations saving about 2500# how will the boat handle in heavy seas. I have a full tower on this boat now and am worried about the center of gravity. Boat weighs 42,000#
Here in the Carolinas 3-5' seas are the norm offshore with 5' being the norm lately. Trolls fine in all kinds of conditions and will make my cruise 20-21 knots in the trough or following seas, even in 6-8' which is the direction we are usually running:) fishin for position.
The 92's require more maintenance than other but I do not to want sacrifice her ability to get off the dock one bit, handling or even spending a little more time in the engine room.

Anyone have any experience with this repower or a boat builder who can answer.

Thanks

Just wanted to get a cpl of different opinions here. I just changed the oil in my engines and have put 35 hours on them would you change the oil again before you laid up for the winter or has the oil not been run enough for it to be a factor?? Any ideas would be appreciated.
