1. I don't like buying crap. But he is 11 and I see this set up getting beat up and abused.

2. My budget is under $250 combined (rod/reel)

3. This is for fishing in the Falmouth Ma area.

4. I think I live 2 piece rods since I envision him lugging this set up on his bike.

What you the experts suggest?
I have seen a 21' version at the ramp at Ryders Cove, seemed like a pretty solid boat.

Two weeks ago we drove from Portsmouth Harbor to Scituate, MA to finish out the season fishing SWC, planned on leaving the boat in Scituate for a few weeks but our starboard engine had some issues cripling the boat. It could not be driven and was stuck 230 miles away from the Iveco mechanic. We were stuck in a harbor with little knowledge of the area.

We wanted to thank Greg Sears from Mass Bay Guides and his guys for helping us out so much.

Greg provided us with a tow to the marina where the boat was being pulled and even helped us take apart the tower and controls.

I owe you big time and hope one day I may be able to return the favor.

Thanks again!
The numbers of fish are getting thinner, much thinner, but definitely still around. Heard of several fish caught today, one on the troll with some bars, a jigged fish, and one or two on bait.....I was rotten from the start, and thats how we finished. had a few taunting me as I crossed the bank headed west in the late afternoon, boiled right under the bow or showed me a caudal fin here and there. FAC all day long, a very nice day to be out on the water. Water temps a steady 50 degrees or so, and gin clear. TONS of dogfish everywhere we went, did my best to cull the herd:rolleyes:

One more shot tommorrow, but for me I hear a distant opera playing in the background, and getting louder by the minute.:D

(AP) – 31 minutes ago
NAIROBI, Kenya — The EU's anti-piracy force says that Somali pirates have again attacked the Maersk Alabama, the U.S.-flagged ship hijacked last spring.
The EU Naval Force says pirates fired automatic weapons at the ship, but that guards on board the craft fired back and thwarted Tuesday's attack.
The vessel was previously hijacked in April. Pirates took American ship captain Richard Phillips hostage and held him at gunpoint in a lifeboat for five days.
Navy SEAL sharpshooters freed Phillips while killing three pirates in a daring nighttime attack.
Cmdr. John Harbour, a spokesman for the EU Naval Force, says it's pure chance the Maersk Alabama was attacked a second time. He says every ship sailing off East Africa is at risk from pirates.

Mr. Danny Whiting and Captain Richard Betts-

A 45 pound bluefin you tagged on October 14, 2006 off of Georges Bank was recaptured in Cape Cod Bay on August 23, 2009. At the time of recapture the fish was 65 inches, with a girth of 44 inches. Congratulations to both of you for tagging a fish which was recaptured. I have sent certificates of congratulations to you both and will send you t-shirts as well. Can you please provide me with you t-shirt size, so that I may send the correct size? Recapture data helps fisheries conservation and biological science. We appreciate your support and your involvement in the Tag A Tiny Program.

I have copied Ms. Becca Toppin of the Large Pelagics Research Lab at the University of New Hampshire. Becca works wit the Tag A Tiny Program and can provide you with additional information about the program and the ways in which it benefits the ocean.

It feels like the end is near. The docks are emptying, while the yards are slowly filling up. Most of the charterboats are
still in the water trying to scratch out a couple more trips. But it’s kind of tough when we get weather like we’ve had for
the past five days. .

Before the blow there were plenty of fish, mostly blues, but if you kept looking you could find a pocket with half bass
and half blues. Most of the bass were in the six to eight pound range, with an occasional ten pounder. Some of the blues
were a lot bigger than the bass. All of the fishing was in the deep waters, out where the pirates sail.

Finally on Sunday a number of the charterboats sailed, but most came right back, thanks to big swells, filthy water and
no fish. One boat who shall remain nameless went out further to the east and found a newer body of fish, all in the
fifteen to twenty pound range, and no bluefish.

The guys fishing for blackfish have been doing well when the conditions are OK. Easy tides and light winds are pretty
essential, especially over at Southwest Ledge. They have also been catching the occasional codfish, which is good
news, because after last winters fishing there are going to be a lot of boats chasing them. The ROSIE from up-island has
already gotten here and there are rumors of another four or five party boats planning to spend the winter here along with
some charters that will probably stay in the water..

If you have always wanted to fish at Tropic Star Lodge in Panama but were never able to plan ahead the year in advance
that is usually required to book a winter trip there, now is the time to act. They have been coming up with occasional
cancellations, including one in mid January. If you are interested, give me a call, ASAP.

If you would like to get these reports sent to you directly, drop me a line at captaingene@montauksportfishing.com and
I’ll put you on the list.
