We will be open on Thanksgiving morning at 6:00 am and be open till at least 11:00 am. We will be open on Friday at 6:00 am.

The Surf Fishing Tournament starts its 4th and last segment on Nov 22nd at 6:00 pm and ends Dec. 6th at 6:00 pm. The tournament runs an extra 2 weeks this year. Prior years big fish were alway caught a few days after the 6 week derby ended so this year you have those extra days so you can catch your big one.

Derby leaders

Mike Kane 42.69 bass

Randy Matlack 16.31 blue

Fri Nov 20th

Showers this morning west wind about 10 -water 55 air 58.

Some good reports from the guys that anchored and clamed in the bay yesterday.

Thurs Nov 19th

Water temps and air the same at 55 degrees.

Fishing on the beach was very slow today.

Around noon today there were some bunker in the inlet off of Holgate. No fish with them.

So far this fall surf fisherman have been very dissapointed in the lack of fish. If you fished in Beach Haven yesterday morning you a decent day catching bluefish as long as you were willing to use a 8 or 10 oz sinker to hold.

Now as for the boat fisherman they are having a great year. Boats that are anchoring up on the bars or off of the intercoastal using clams are catching fish. Prior to last weeks northeaster there were some boats catching fish in the double digits. Since the storm the fish are here but not in those numbers. This week it has been hard to anchor on the bars with the swell but those that have are catching. They are still in the bay on clams too.

More and more sand eels are appearing so more and more jigging will be producing fish.

There really isn't anything specific that I can pass along today. Listening to misc chatter from the anglers, the catching is spotty and you have to move around a little bit to find out where the bass are lying. I couldn't quite figure where the anglers were on the bass today but the VHF radio had chatter amongst anglers comparing the numbers of bass in the box. Persistence is key.
We have fresh bunker! Another delivery is coming tomorrow to back up what we have today and we might be able to keep them rolling in through the weekend. Fresh clam supply is in good shape with a back up order ready to pick up if we should run low.
Sea Ya

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 /\/\/\ 5:09pm
Anglers endured the crappy sea conditions of Little Egg Inlet to catch a few fish. The bite didn't last long between too much current and too much grass. It is still quite a bit of a mess after last weekends raging North Easter.
We did have a couple of weigh-ins this afternoon. One pair of nice twenty pound class fish came from Hatfield Point area and another of the twelve pound fish that we weighed in was caught by a boater off of Graveling Point.
Last nights activity at Graveling Point was dead from about five to eight in the evening. A boater reported catching one bass and missing another and observed the bank guys doing nothing most of the evening. I heard a little bit of activity from Pebble Beach, but the action sure was not hot last night.
“The slow rebound”-Fishing report-11-20-09-By Bob Misak
It took a little time after this last doozie of a storm passed through for fish to start hitting the scales again in the L.B.I. surf classic. As quoted in the last write up, fish were hitting the scales as I wrote. A good number of blues came back on shore from Monday to Wednesday, with Basil Dubrosky starting things off on Monday with an 11 lb. blue dog, only to be out done by Gene Slaughter with a 12 lb. fish. But that wasn’t enough as “the sharpster” Bill Montrey who has been having a great year, weighed in a 13 lb. chopper. The bass were still lying low, with Tom Zane finding a needle in a haystack beaching an 18 lb. striper. On Tuesday more blues came in with Mike Gowan and Rich King both breaking 11 lbs and one more bass being sought out by Christian Martin at 24 lbs. even. On Wednesday my ol’ buddy and childhood hangout Bobby Gatton weighed in a 10 lb. blue, and Chris Masino also broke 10 lbs. But the fish of the week was Randy Matlack’s tournament leading bluefish, stressing the scale at 16.31 lbs! I smell a thousand dollar blue! There were still no signs of bass until Wednesday night when Dennis Stepien, another tourney regular came to the rescue with a 35.31 lb. linesider! The rest of this week is typically the week when the winning fish in the derby is entered, and according to Basil, there WILL be a 50 lb. fish weighed. Only thing is, I was dumb enough to agree with Basil, so somebody catch a 50, will ya, so me and Basil don’t look like a couple of buffoons. (Too late for that.)
In the bay there are still keeper bass being caught on a regular basis, and the mouth of Oyster creek has been giving up some decent bass. The fish up in mud channel and over by the 30 buoys are cookie cutters as well, but they are keepers at 30 to 36 inches, great for the table.
Outside guys continue to catch bass on live spots, and it is just now starting to pick up with some boats limiting on bass while either jigging Avas or floating spots. The head boats are wreck fishing for a bit now that the tog limit went up, giving them a reason to fish those wrecks. Some nice white chins at 6 to 8 lbs. are being caught, and over by the condo docks anglers continue to catch nice fish, and you can put yourself out of the weather over there. But remember it is about eight ft. down to the water, so if you don’t have a long handled net, you’ll flirt with disaster if you get a 10 lb. tog on. Usually someone over there has a long net, and those guys look out for each other. They will be glad to net a big fish for you as I have done for them and them for me in the past few months. The shop has plenty of green crabs, as well as bunker and clams for the end of the season. It ain’t over yet, there will still be big bass and blues caught for the next two weeks, so get over to Barnegat Light bait and tackle, and good luck and great fishing to everyone.

I know the limit has increased and there have been some nice ones caught off the bridges and rock piles. Is anyone on her getting into them. Do you use greenies or white leggers. Never had much luck using leggers of the rocks but they are off the charts from a boat

I'd prefer to avoid the inlet and stick to the surf. Any suggestions or reccomedations would really be helpful.

The captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association are hopeful the fishing will be as hot after last week’s severe nor’easter as it was before it struck.
Captain Fran Verdi of the “Drop Off” fished the day before it hit and began the day with two keepers on the incoming tide on the north bar of Little Egg Inlet. When the white water disappeared, and Captain Fran pulled anchor to look for more white water.
He reports that spot was constant action despite the rolling white water and crashing waves. At the day’s end the crew had seven fish 34-39 inches. He is continuing to fish Wednesday to Monday with mostly open boat fishing.
Captain Carl Sheppard of the “Star Fish” out of Beach Haven says he wanted to fish last Saturday, but it was just too rough. He adds that his action on Sunday helped to make up for missing Saturday.
He started by trying to fish a rip in the bay, but had to stop due to muddy water and an excess of sea weed. He made the decision to brave a few swells in the inlet and see what the ocean had to offer.
The move was a good one as he located a flock of gannets working over an area in 35-feet of water. What he found was a school of striped bass with no bluefish mixed in. He managed to jig up 22 bass with most of them keeper sized. He even tried trolling a diamond jig on his way back to port and even picked up a bass this way.
Captain Frank Camarda and the “Miss Beach Haven” fished Monday taking good advantage of the increase in the daily blackfish limit. Both the weather and the fish cooperated as the every angler aboard limited out except for one. The boat remained in one spot for the day, and most of the fish were between two and four pounds. Darren Garabo of Beach Haven won the pool with a 4-pounder. Captain Frank says he will be sailing Saturdays and Sundays at 7 am.
Additional information on the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association can be obtained at their website www.fishbeachhaven.com
