Fish on!

One of our best clients, Jon Clement came down again for a “mental health” day. It’s his term for a day on the water, by himself, to unwind from his rat-race travel schedule. Jon is not one for pictures so I will make this short and sweet.

Jon arrived at the normal time and we shoved off aboard The BEAST. We hit the Hardtail spots and gathered some baits quickly then moved out to the patches to see if we could find some Ballyhoo. The ’hoo’s have been few and far between lately. We only managed to catch 18, so we moved on.

The blue water conditions were good with some wave action but not uncomfortable. We caught 2 Bluefish in the 13# class, that were left over from that unusual run we had here earlier. Jon

Porbeagles and Por Anglers

Porbeagle Sharks are not a well known sport fish or do you find them on the Menu very often. But they are a good fighter and a tasty treat for those who like seafood steaks like Swordfish and Tuna. This species of shark is a mackerel shark like Mako and Threasher. They like cold water and resemble the Salmon shark of the Pacific Northwest. One of my favorite sharks to eat and Catch.

The shark Below was caught today on an Ugly Stick with a Diawa Saltist it took Ken about 45 minutes to land this toothy critter. Ken was a member of today's mixed party Thursday group. This Porbeagle was a first for Ken who hails from Nantucket.
Mother's Day Stripers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ran an open boat Mother's Day trip today and the constantly changing weather and finicky fish made for some interesting challenges. Ron was too busy messing around with his phone and got outfished by his wife Diane. Jim who jumped on at the last minute gave everyone some fishing lessons. All in all, a real nice time with some great people.

Kids and Fishing in the FL Keys

Kids Love fishing and we love having them out on the water.

All of our Captains have children and one of our favorite things to do is see the smile and excitement of a child when they are out exploring with us.
We love sharing the passion and welcoming kids into the fishing arena.
Several times throughout the season in Islamorad we will take local school kids for trips on “That’s Right” to let them learn and explore the reefs and waterways of the Keys.
Capt Aaron on the “Pretty Work” and Capt Ron on “Pirate for Hire” both enjoy putting kids of all ages on the fish. Watching a child light at as a Mahi explodes into an acrobastic display, or the look of intrigue as a child catches a shark.

The best game in town is striped marlin fishing. There has been a few dorado and wahoo in the counts but not like the last couple of weeks. As the hot marlin action off Punta Pescadero died a huge body of fish popped up south of Los Frailes. It is a bit of a run for us but once there the action has been non-stop. In shore the roosterfish are cooperating one day and gone the next. Live bait has been tough to come by making it hard to target the roosters. Tuna? We are just holding our breath.
Running of the Bulls: Pretty Work Style up to 48lbs

Well things have really come on strong and the Mahi run is off and running. We had a beauty of a bull that scaled out to 48lbs. We have had a few in the 30lb range plenty in the 20lb range and everything else as well.

Sails are being found as well, Permit have made a showing along with AJ's on some of the wrecks when the charters want a break from the Mahi. A few nice tripletails have been pulled out from some weedlines as well.

Grouper season will be opening on May 1st and we are super excited as it will be game on and we have been releasing nice grouper for the last 4 months.
