North Carolina Fishing Report 11/09-11/10
Fishing Report posted by merry marlin
Finally made it down to the coast this weekend to crank up Merry marlin's engines after two months… As we had a report of a 78" Bluefin caught at the 1700 Rock saturday we headed out for a morning of trawling but had no signs of fish in that area. By noon the wind picked up and we went on the bottom to take a limit of gags an four kings and the boys played with some FAT Alberts….
No camera on board but we hooked a stingray by the tail that was so big that it would have made some of those inshore june monsters look small! We ended hand lining it up…
We were greeted back home by the community goat mower, only in Marshallberg would you see that!
Anyway back on subject… As Capt Lee was in Harkers Island we thought this was our chance to meet another Legend from Wilmington and he accepted to come out for dinner Sunday evening. What a pleasure listening to this Gentle Fisherman talk… He comes after several generations of watermen and hunters and his experience of these NC waters are quite an inspiration for the boys and myself.
We had a fun evening and he even showed the boys how to unblock the steering of the duck boat as they were going to hunt in the morning.
Originally we were going to take him fishing monday but the forecast wasn't too good so he said lets fish inshore on his Southern Skimmer.
In the morning after a quick cup of coffee we put the boat in the Marshallberg harbor and looked at a couple spots that usually produce for us around Thanksgiving. The trout or puppies weren't there but we did find a few just off the old Jarret Bay place…
It was my first time fishing with mirrolures and the Capt. was at 5 to 0 before I hooked my first fish! I sure knew how to catch squirts on the bottom though…
