Redfish continue to be the focus of many as we head into the heart of October. Trout fishing is and has been sporadic of late. Redfish in upper San Antonio Bay, Hynes and Mission had slowed down mid-week as water levels fell to more seasonal norms. They got few and far between to say the least despite huge bait concentrations. Friday, the water levels started rising with a big South wind and sure enough it kicked things off again in the upper reaches. Limits of Redfish and monster Blue Catfish came for area anglers. Fishing a three boat trip with Pesado Construction Saturday, Capt. James Cunningham led a youngster, 6 year old Luke Hunter to top honors in their Corporate tournament. His catch included two Blue Catfish almost as long as he was tall along with upper slot Redfish. Capt. Steve Boldt took "Top Dawg honors" digging his heals in for Redfish limits in the tourney as well.Mid-week, I slid over to Port O'Connor and managed full limits of Redfish working sand/grass flats with Cliff C. and guests. We had a solid tide falling all morning and we managed four man limits around 10:30am. I looked at Pringle Lake a couple of days after Ike and it was in terrible shape. Thursday, returning from POC, I popped back in there to take another look and things are pretty much the same. There are huge amounts of floating grass, water is tannin with little bait movement. Shoalwater looks much the same. I think with the 4' storm surge with Ike, it floated all the dead grass piled up on the shorelines and we are having a tough time getting rid of it. This is especially true with the wind swirling out of every imaginable direction.
Come home when you can!
