Capt. Mike and Don returned from their recent blue water adventure with some excellent news regarding the vastly improved offshore fishing. A real mixed bag of pelagics as varied as the ground fish on an inshore cod trip in November!!! First and foremost was the decent number of Yellow fin Tuna of mixed sizes but including a couple up around 80 lbs and the best number of Yellows yet this season. A handful of Albacore in the 40 lb range as well. Two dozen bull Mahi up to just over 20 lbs plus an 80 lb Mako. A smaller Mako and a Sword fish that missed by a half inch were brought to the boat and carefully released as was a beautiful 70 lb White Marlin which was one of several White Marlin hookups!! Capt. Mike was elated with the improvement in the fishery and cannot wait to get out there for the next offshore trip which leaves tomorrow morning aboard the Lady Frances at 7am.Capt. Rich reported another good day of local cod fishing although not quite up to yesterday's pace. The bite was a bit more relaxed today but the fish taken were quality fish. Three fish in the high 20s fought it out for the pool today with quite a few cod fish in the teens and a handful of market size fish. Even some shorts today. A mix of dark and green cod fish. Hi hook was Carlos from the Bronx who had 5 good cod to 20 lbs and two snowshoe flounder in the 4 lb range. A dozen other snowshoes were taken as well. A good number of anglers aboard had 2 to 4 cod apiece and when they are ten pounds and up it doesn't take many cod to make a lot of great dinners. Some good size blue fish to 12 lbs and some big perch plus another good size fluke to top off another good catch of cod. Next cod fish trip is anxiously looked forward to tomorrow morning at 7am aboard the Gail Frances.
Capt. Ray reported that they CRUSHED the porgies today and the JUMBO scup were back in force. Double headers of 1 to 2 plus lb fish were common place with a few real brutes up to 3 lbs and many limit catches taken by anglers. It was a great day for other species as well with the best numbers of jumbo sea bass in quite some time, some in the 3 to 4lb range. A nice Striper in the high teens and bluefish in the 10 to 12 lb range made for some additional sport and to top off a perfect day of bottom fishing were back to back 6 lb cod fish by two anglers side by side. Next 8am porgy trip sets sail on the Admiral Frances tomorrow morning.
The bottom fishing charter today for the Protection Engine Co #1 from Hastings on Hudson,NY was a great success. The gentlemen aboard had a great time and were a pleasure to have on board. Included in their catch were codfish, scup, sea bass and some ocean perch. The Capt. Frances is the perfect boat for small charters and anyone interested can call the office to inquire on further details.
