10/10/08 UPDATED 1:33 PM The wind has turned light northeast as of about 2 hours ago. They instantly had some big bluefish show up around Area 23. That's all I have heard so far. A lot of angler gearing up for the holiday weekend.UPDATED 5:13 AM The wind never changed and we still have the same westerly wind. Hopefully the fish from the north have started to move down this way for the weekend. They are getting bass in the dark. Locals have been hitting them on black Mambos or Bombers.
3 years ago today, John Bushell Sr. left us and it goes without saying how much he is missed. Thanks for everything Dad. John Jr.
A Mememorial Tournament, the one held at the Down Under Bar at Berkeley Seafood in South Seaside Park, will be held again this year on Colombus Day, October 13th. The entry fee is $35 per person which includes a buffet afterwards. Cash prizes will be based on a Calcutta format and the largest species takes the prizes. This tourney was originally started to honor my cousin, George Cattano Jr., who also died very young, and was the tourney my father was fishing in when he passed away on the beach. Dave Larsen, who frequented the Berkeley Seafood establishment, who was also a local legend that left us too soon, is honored in this tournament as well. You must enter before Saturday the 12th.
YESTERDAY'S REPORT: UPDATED 4:30 PM Still just a slow pick. Birds and bait off the beach. Wind is supposed to change tonight to easterly.
