A writer called me today; I forgot to ask who he is writing an article for. I guess the topic created an instant reaction of high blood pressure for me. Topic? How do I feel about the up and coming NJ state salt water fishing license? After about half an hour, I summarized that I am all for it. WHAT? Well, if New Jersey does not create a salt water fishing license, it was in my understanding that the Federals would create one for them. If New Jersey satisfied the federal requirement with a salt water fishing license for $2.00, most people really wouldn't care how the funds were allocated and would likely balk very little and get the license. Now, quite a few anglers are in favor of a salt water license because they have hopes that the funds generated by the license fees would be used for the improvement of the salt water fishing experience. What would one consider an improvement? I think everyone would agree funding that would aid in the creation of fish catch data tables resulting in truth rather than the fiction used to create recreational limits we have forced upon us today would be a positive result of monies spent. My biggest fear is administration getting a complete new structure of fat cats with big paychecks which would leave very little funds left to trickle down for the projects that could really help the declining recreational fishery. I guess time will tell.
