Congratulations go out to Castaway Lodge Team Capt. James Cunningham for taking 3rd Place honors in the Port O'Connor Women's Classic over the weekend with 18.5Lbs. The tournament consisted of around 30 boats and the weigh-in was 3 Trout and 2 Redfish.Good news on the fishing scene includes predictable drag burning success on local Redfish. Trout fishing continues spotty overall. However, my focus hasn't left them completely and we are averaging near limits with each attempt. The forecast is for Trout fishing to build as we head into cooler weather along with mixing Redfish over various mud/grass and shell venues in San Antonio Bay and Espiritu Santo Bay. Success over mud/grass will be dependent on bigger tides and plenty of wind with open bay exposed shell locations more dependent on mild weather. I'm basing this prediction on the most recent similar season to 2008 which would be 2006. During the 2006 season, we were very salty as we are at present. Trout fishing got spotty and unpredictable during mid-August, 2006 with heavy Redfish action filling the gap until mid-September when Trout fishing exploded. While I haven't seen a total Trout meltdown as we did in August of 06, it is very spotty and timing oriented for success. Tides can have a lot to do with success on Trout at this time and sometimes working with, and waiting on, a tide can be a roll of the dice.

Dove, Gator, Hogs "Cast & Blast"
Alligator season opens September 10th and runs through September 30th. Dove Season in the South Zone opens September 20th through November 9th. Come join us for a Cast & Blast combination of your choosing or take it all in with "The Ironman" from September 20th through the 30th. Fish in the morning, Dove hunt the afternoon, Hog hunt at night and fight Gators the next morning. Wendi will keep the horses fresh with the best meals on the Texas Coast and The Lodge is the best place to lay your head down when you get the chance!

Duck Season
It looks like a November 1st opener through November 30th (the Monday after Thanksgiving) then re-opening on December 13th and running through January 25th.

Come home when you can!
