Labor Day Weekend certainly was beautiful. Hope you were hear for it!
Sorry for the delay in posting the report this week. We had a bad case of the computer gremlins. Tried spraying the screen with a can of Raid but that did not seem to work.
Its been a strange start to the much awaited fall fishing season. The word from the Inian River Inlet is that the fish are in tight to the rockpile. Right now stripers are hitting on the first part of the outgoing tide at night. Floating fleas has been a good technique as has working a jig or eels down the wall.
Not much action reported during the daytime. The outgoing tide has been covered with grass.
Be prepared to move often and change rigs often. You are going to have to work for them. The big blow forecasted for the weekend should help to improve the striper action once the weather settles.
There are some big bluefish in the Inlet as well. They are right on the bottom. We have heard about some 15 pounders.
Plenty of small flounder in the Inlet as well. The flounder are most likely staging up to move offshore to deeper water for the fall and winter months.
Delaware tautog season closed on Monday, September 1 and will remain closed through the 28th. Hoepfully there are some black drum, sheepshead, croakers and triggerfish, around to take up the slack.
Surf fishing is slow with only small croakers, kingfish and blues to report along with sharks and skates. No fresh mullet around to speak of. They might not show at all this year in any numbers.
Fall tournament season is fast approaching. The 11th Annual Delaware Seashore Fall Surf Fishing Classic will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 27-28. More than $15,000 in cash and prizes will be at stake.
The 2nd Annual DMS Invitaional Surf Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 11-12. The DMS is offering a new truck prize to the person that breaks the existing Delaware state record for bluefish.
Brouchures for both tournaments are available at Old Inlet.
Weather permitting, the flounder bite should be good out around B Buoy and the Old Grounds. A few seabass in the mix out there as well.
Offshore fishing is decent as long as the weather holds. Capt Tom Murphy on the MEGA-BITE reported bluefins, yellowfins, dolphin and albacore on the Hambone. He had 77 degree water and used spreader bars and skirted hoos.
Feel free to email us a report or to submit pictures for our picture page.
Good fishing!!
