Horrible weather over the weekend, but the fishing was decent. The blow on Saturday resulted in the State shutting down the Park for a while on Saturday morning. Not sure why they closed it. They must not realize that striper love rough water.
We received a report of good fishing Friday prior to the weather. Sam C, of Milton, sent in pictures of two nice trout taken from the south rockpile during the night. He says you need to move alot, switch rigs alot and work for them.
Croakers have been located about 7 miles off the Inlet, due east. Should be some flounder out there with them too.
Delaware tautog season closed on Monday, September 1 and will remain closed through the 28th. Hoepfully there are some black drum, sheepshead, croakers and triggerfish, around to take up the slack.
Surf fishing is slow with only small croakers, kingfish and blues to report along with sharks and skates. No fresh mullet around to speak of. They might not show at all this year in any numbers.
Fall tournament season is fast approaching. The 11th Annual Delaware Seashore Fall Surf Fishing Classic will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 27-28. More than $15,000 in cash and prizes will be at stake.
The 2nd Annual DMS Invitaional Surf Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 11-12. The DMS is offering a new truck prize to the person that breaks the existing Delaware state record for bluefish.
Brouchures for both tournaments are available at Old Inlet.
No report from the offshore waters. Too much wind to allow any one to fish. Forecast looks good for the weekend though.
Feel free to email us a report or to submit pictures for our picture page.
Good fishing!!
