11th Annual Delaware Seashore Fall Surf Fishing Classic Recap

Heavy surf and unsafe beach conditions necessitated canceling the 11th Annual Delaware Seashore Fall Surf Fishing Classic.

Pursuant to tournament rules, with more than 250 particpants preregistered, the prizes and prize monies (with exception of the trophies/bronzes) were given away by lottery at 2:30pm on Sunday September 28 at the Savage's Ditch Pavillion just south of Old Inlet. Participants did not need to be present to win prizes, but a crowd of more than 100 was on hand for the drawing. Winners that were not present will be notified within the next few days.

Mark your calendars now for the 12th Annual Delaware Seashore Fall Surf Fishing Classic sheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4, 2009.

The weather settled enough for the State Park to reopen 3R's road and Keybox Road late Sunday morning. Conquest and Savage's crossings remain closed due to severe erosion and the ramps washing out. There was a 4 foot plus drop off at the base of the Conquest ramp. The State should have these ramps repaired in the coming days. We will keep you posted.

Once the seas subside, the beach is going to be wide and flat. Much of the sand from the beach has been pulled offshore making for a shallow, wide wash. This is perfect for flounder and striper fishing. One angler phoned in a report that he had several undersized flounder from the beach on Sunday.

Heard reports of some stripers in the Inlet over the weekend. Sam C of Milton emailed to say he had 7 stripers up to 31 inches on flys from his boat on the night time outgoing tides.

Capt Sonny reported 2 undersized flounder on live bunker on Sunday.

Delaware tautog season reopened on the 29th. Live greens crabs are available. The recent northeast winds have made live sandfleas scarce. We'll let you know if and when we get any.

The 2nd Annual DMS Invitaional Surf Fishing Tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 11-12. The DMS is offering a new truck prize to the person that breaks the existing Delaware state record for bluefish. Brouchures are available at Old Inlet.

Feel free to email us a report or to submit pictures for our picture page.
