We have just received a new shipment of rods and lures as part of the Shimano Jigging Concept System. Rods include the Trevalas and Tescatas. Jigs include the Lucanas and Butterflies. We are also stocking the new Shimano Baysteel 7" Saltwater Multi Tool designed to easily cut the braided lines popular for jigging. Stop by the store to see the new product lines and if you have any questions ask Bill Jr or Brian as they both attended the Shimano Seminar.
The Division of Parks and Recreation announced that Cape Henlopen State Park's Point Beach has reopened. The Oceanside beach has opened to pedestrians and surf-fishing vehicles, while the Bayside beach will remain closed until Wed., Oct. 1, for use by shorebirds migrating south for the winter.
The "Fishermen Identification Network" (FIN) will become effective Jan 1 2009 so that Delaware anglers will not be subjected to a Federal license and fee. Fish and Wildlife will create a Fisherman Identification Number or FIN. The way the system is setup is if a person that is going to go on a boat which is licensed or is 65 or older will need to call a toll free number and give their name and address. They will then be given a FIN number at no cost. This should capture those fishermen now lost in the current system. Charter/head boats and surf tag holders would not have to do this as the data will be captured using other methods.
Here are some of the reports we have received since last week:
The storm stopped fishing for a few days. Anglers finally got out and a few reports finally started coming in.
Fishing at the Cape Henlopen Pier has produced spot. Flounder are showing up in the Canal. Anglers are reporting a few trout in the Broadkill. The mouth of the Bay is producing croaker as well as outside the IRI.
Sea bass and flounder are being boated at Site 11, the De. Lightshiip, B Buoy and the Old Grounds.
Puppy drum are still being caught on clams at Masseys Landing.
Bluefin tuna, dolphin and mako are at the Hot Dog. Yellowfin are at the 30 Fathom line and dolphin, bluefina and yellowfin at the Tea Cup.
Vince Luciano and Mike Fleming went deep dropping and had 4 tilefish around 35lbs each in the canyons. The party then boated 35 dolphin.
From Sue Foster, Oyster Bay Tackle: Libby Kelly of Oyster Bay Tackle reports on Monday morning: "Blues are being caught on Assateague surf and flounder on mullet rigs." Doug Trice also reported the bluefish, up to about 18 inches, were blitzing the beach in the morning before Hanna. Anglers could not keep a line in the water. There have been a few decent flounder mixed in as well.
Captain Carey Evans, on the Grizzly out of Fisherman's Warf in Lewes, reports that croaker fishing has been consistent with some real pretty 2lb fish in the catches. Flounder fishing has continued to be a tough nut to crack with the 19 1/2" size limit. Andy Duncan did catch our first angler limit of flounder including two over five lbs. The offshore bite has continued to be slow so far with the only exception being some nice catches of dolphin. Steve Henry did land a 139lb bluefin in eight minutes on our last overnight trip. The guys also released one similar in size as well.
Hopefully tropical storm Hanna will help the night bite for tuna and swordfish.
Tautog is closed Sept. 1 to 28.
