Here's a pic of a fish that almost got away..Angler Brian Smith "BS" of Lake Charles fought this beast on August 8th.. about 20 minutes into the fight the fish tailwrapped itself..I could see it coming in backwards a few minutes later and rushed to assist the landing..by the time I made it out of the tower with about 10 feet to go I had made it to the gaff rack where I grabbed a second gaff which was a snapper gaff (just grabbed the first thing I could) by the time I turned around the fish about was halfway out of the water tail first..the mate, a duck hunter, sank the first gaff in its top quarter and I followed about a 1/4 second later just as the fish came back to life..fortunately I landed the point deep into the belly and as as the fish went deep pulling Rene's gaff out and him nearly overboard I somehow managed to hang on and stop the 120 pound fish bringing it to the surface with the fish doing a high speed arc motion…the 60 pound leader had broken so I was the only thing between great elation and dissapointment….close inspection of the snapper gaff revealed damage to the hook it will only be used for gaffing floating snapper and jacks here on out
