The last few days have seen a remarkable change in offshore fishing. It resembles a sharp seasonal exchange in species from summer to fall. Lots of yellowfin tuna were caught today and bigeyes. The yellowfins were generally big with one hitting 109 pounds. Several citations were caught one boat had two weighing 76 and 73 pounds. That boat had a total of 15 tunas. There were at least 14 bigeyes caught weights ranged from 97 to 170 pounds each. There was a separation in locations between dolphin and tuna. Two boats that fished for marlin caught and released blue marlins and returned with around 30 dolphin each. Inshore there was good spanish mackerel and bluefish. Some king mackerel were caught. An open boat caught 3 cobias and sheepshead. A popular fishing area, the beach acrost from Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, accessed through ramp 4 opened to the South past the North Point. Pictures were taken and will be posted
