It sure feels like Fall. It looks like an early start to the Fall fishing season. Thing is, the fish are not really cooperating. Fishing could only be classified as average right now. There are a few bright spots but it seems we have unsettled weather (it is blowing NE 20 knots at the moment)throwing things off.

A fleet of boats was parked in the mouth of the Indian River Inlet all weekend. Croakers up to 14 inches were reported, but the bite was not consistent.

One of the bright spots - Sam C, from Milton, emailed a nice picture of three trout he caught along the rocks over the weekend. He says to fish in tight and be prepared to move alot and change rigs often until you find them. Good advice.

It sounds like you are going to have to work for the fish right now. Now that the kiddies have gone back to school and the crowds have gone this will be easier to do.

They are picking at the rockfish in the Inlet. Quite a few small flounder around as well.

Small fish abound on the beach. The northeast wind last week has pulled quite a bit of sand off the beach and set up a sand bar about ten yards off the beach in many places. The water in the surf has been dirty. We suggest fishing a little further out on the edge of that bar. The water is cleaner - the bite is not hot but much better than in the dirty stuff.
David Lecates, of Bethany Beach, landed a 14 inch 1 and a quarter pound kingfish in the suds on Conquest Road.
Remember, Delaware tautog season closes on Monday, September 1 and will remain closed through the 28th. Hoepfully there are some black drum, sheepshead, croakers and triggerfish, around to take up the slack.
Weather permitting, the flounder bite should be good out around B Buoy and the Old Grounds. A few seabass in the mix out there as well.
