On wednesday we had the guys from Lucky 13 tattoos in Richmond aboard for a half day in the afternoon. They closed shop in Richmond for the day to come down and fish with us and these guys came to have a good time. They had a group of 12, so we set them up with two boats, my boat and Shore Leave. Matador was gonna go down and get the meat and fish a wreck, Shore Leave was gonna troll for a king. The forecast was for it to rain the entire time, but as usual, the weatherman proved himself to be an idiot and it may have sprinkled for 30 or so seconds the entire trip. Other than that, we had 10 mph south southeast winds and 75 degree water with medium clarity. We started off trolling off dam neck, where the bluefish and spanish were not cooperative. So, we pushed to a wreck where we would anchor up and spend most of our day. We immediately started catching triggers, with some nice ones mixed in. On the wreck we also caught spadefish, several just undersize flounder, some porgies, whiting, and bluefish. After fishing the wreck we put down a quick troll and caught 3 or four blues and a spanish. We picked up lines and moved over to check a nearby buoy where we found 5 cobias. I managed to hook the biggest one in the group from up top on the jig. I am deadly with that thing from up on the bridge. It was a barely legal fish, but barely legal is legal enough and in the box it went. After that, we did a quick drift at the dump site for sharks, but no love on that. The Shore Leave stayed off sandbridge and caught 7 bluefish on the troll and with a half hour before lines out, the hooked a nice king in 25 feet of water off the golfball. After a twenty minute fight on light tackle, they landed the 32# king that took a live bluefish. We met back at the fuel dock and both sides of the group compared their catches, drank some beers while the fish were cleaned, and off they went.
