It has been an interesting week for deep sea fishermen who have lived life in mother ocean out of Cabo San Lucas. Striper Marlin, Sailfish,Tuna and Dorado have been on the K-atching menu with the bigger news that the Blue Marlin bite appears to have, at last, turned on too. Why interesting you ask? Because this week has days with pure undeniable excitement with some of the best fishing in Cabo San Lucas since the first few months of this year. Followed by the next day of some real slow fishing action. What we like is that the ole Pacific, which has been emptied of Big Game fish the past five months, finally has started to produce Striper Marlin, a Blue Marlin and Dorado plus Tuna depending on where one travels. Most the Stripers have been caught straight out of Cabo, at times just 3-5 miles, and towards the San Jaime Bank. San Jaime holds these Marlin however, usually one does not need to travel that far. Those Tuna I mention have been located 8-10 miles outside San Jaime Bank on the 1000 Fathom Curve. However, not many charters are going there for it is really far and better fishing is found closer in. On the Sea of Cortez the Striper Marlin and an occasional Dorado have been spotted with a good Hook Up success rate between the 1150 and 95 banks. A few more Blue Marlin have been caught in this Cortez area too this week. In fact on the 30th our Hook Up Charter boat got a 200 pound Blue just three miles outside on a heading towards the 95. The Horseshoe on the Pacific has been productive for Striper Marlin also and a few Blue Marlin were spotted there without a hook up. The Old Lighthouse has seen the presence of Stripers and Dorado have been taken here. Back out on the Cortez Gorda Bank is still productive as well as 8 miles further North at Destiladeras. We have been pleased with this weeks action with the Stripers making their best show since the winter months. As August is here now let us hope and look forward that this shall be the start of a big late summer into tournament fall season. Now an angler fishing tip just for you just now. How are you guaranteed to catch a fish? Have someone throw you one.
Now, let's talk about a few Fishing Warriors who have Hooked Up on our Hook Up Charter Boats. From the land of the Cleveland Browns Mark McMahon, from where else Cleveland, Ohio, fish on our Hook Up Too with Captain Alex on July the 31st. Under the heat of the day in an instant in time he hooked up and release one real nice Striper Marlin. Wow, indeed what a thrill watching that creature make a reel screaming run only to jump and twist then the be captured. They were 7 miles straight outside Whalehead. Mark said, "After experiencing three fishing trips this one was the Best! The crew was really friendly and most experienced." Thanks for those kind words Mark for they are appreciated. Coming on down to enjoy all that Cabo San Lucas offers were Kate Kunnel and John Conger from Cathedral City,California. Going fishing on Hook Up on July the 28th they got the action they were looking for in fighting and releasing one real nice Blue Marlin! Feeling the energy that was in the air that day they figured that it was time to fish so went out the next day also. Yes, YES another Blue Marlin! Back to back Blues on back to back days –outstanding. Hook Up took them both days to the Horseshoe area, just a short run of 8-miles outside the marina. They commented, "It was all good! What a great experience."
To recap, we have seen improved fishing during this posted period and look forward to it only getting better. At last, we have been in the presence of Striper and Blue Marlin and they have made a showing on the Pacific Ocean which has been dry in recent months. Warmer water continues pushing in and it could only get better. However, let us who fish realize, that fishing is a lifestyle of living life not just catching fish. Hey Buoys and Gulls, should you come to Cabo San Lucas we invite you to visit our Hook Up Charter Office and Big Game Apparel Store located right in the heart of downtown Cabo just one easy walking block up from the main drag. Find us across the street of Mar de Cortz Hotel. Come on in to visit for we love fishermen and fisherwomen too. Just walk in a give us a hearty Hook Up shout.
