Capt. Ray reported the Striper fishing got off to a very promising start last night when the first fish to the gaff just a couple minutes after the horn sounded for the first drop was a fine bass in the teens. Unfortunately through the night only a couple other bass were to be brought in despite lots of empty hooks. Lots of bluefish of fair to decent size helped make up for the lack of bass with lots of action. Next Striper trip is set to sail this coming Wednesday evening at 7pm.Capt. Paul reported a slower night last night on the local bluefish grounds. Anglers chipped away through the night but it was nothing like the night before. Nothing huge. No blue sharks. Bruce and Ginny take one night off from blue fishing and the blue fish go on strike!! A few anglers had upwards to a half dozen blues apiece, primarily those following the mate's instructions . Next bluefish trip is set to sail next Friday night at 7pm aboard the Gail Frances.
Capt. Don reported a decent AM 1/2 trip with a mixed bag of nice keeper fluke, scup and sea bass plus some good action with the shorts. The way the trip started things were on fire but then the action became quieter but all in all it was a busy morning.
Capt. Mike reported quality not quantity today on the 8am full day fluke boat. Mostly keepers and very few shorts just a very relaxed pace of fishing. Nothing over 6lbs today but most of the fish were keepers in the 4lb class. A few good size sea bass in the mix with sizes to 4lbs. One nice bluefish and that was all she wrote today. All groups left with fish with some more experienced anglers getting several nice keepers each. Next 8am trip sails tomorrow morning aboard the Admiral Frances.
Capt. Rich reported a decent day aboard the 7am full day fluke/sea bass boat. Mr. Kim had his limit and the pool with a fish around 7lbs while another fellow on the boat had his limit and another regular customer fishing in the stern had 6 good fluke and 4 nice sea bass to take home. Quite a few anglers had 2 to 4 fluke/sea bass apiece and some anglers had less but overall a decent day. Quite a few big sea bass in the 3 to 5.5lb range but the overall numbers were down slightly but when they are that size who really cares?? A few scup and a nice bluefish and smooth sand shark rounded out the day's catch.
